Looks great!
This might be a dumb question, but is it necessary to buy the new usb connector and cable for the CIC system? Or we could reuse the existing ones on the CCC system? Also can you go into a bit more detail (or maybe paste the link) about re-pining the display power cable.. Cheers..

I've got the third one. They seem to be using the same plug. But i'd just put out an extra 15-20 bucks and get one just in case.
This is the Old Power connector for the display Simply unpin it and repin it to the new connector which also will be provided. 1 to 1 (Red/Yellow) 3 to 3 (Brown) 5 to 5 (Orange/Grey) 6 to 6 (Green) This is what it should look like afterwards. (your new connector might be black. the connector that was provided to me was also black. Let me know if you have any other questions. Guys that live in melbourne. im more than happy to install it for you in return for a beer =P |

Thanks for the detail explaination Naynay!
Haha yeah its quite tempting, and the cost for the whole kit isn't really that bad.

what about all the harnesses being different, did oyu have to splice anything or was there a harness provided? I am not a big fan of repinning or anything like that.
edit: what about the USB Input? on ebay he says europe maps are preloaded nothing bout aussie? does it fit directly over the old school CCC (not widescreen, just normal shape). Last edited by stephano5; 11-26-2013 at 04:04 AM.. |

Excellent job naynay. Thanks for sharing your work. You have done a great job. Most CCC owners would love to have the shortcut keys let alone the whole system. It really is a terrific upgrade for those that are planning on keeping their cars for a while or have just bought a pre-lci car. Price is very reasonable as well.
There was a guy a few years back that did an M3 body upgrade to his E92 335i. (Space Grey type Ferrari colour with Beige interior, 20in Breyton GTS-R's from memory) He did a CIC retrofit as well. It was done by a shop. The pre-LCI E92's were only a couple of years old back then and still being sold new when the CIC Nav was introduced so it would have taken a bit of figuring out. It didn't sound like an easy job. Looks like you are the first guy in Australia to install this himself and get it to work. Congrats man and thanks again for sharing. Might have a crack at this myself.

To add further to this thread, I also recently purchased a CIC unit, screen, cables, emulator and pre-coding etc from this same eBay seller.
I've successfully installed it into a 2008 M3 coupe. The installation is pretty straight forward if you follow some of the DIY's on this forum. The hardest part for me was routing the new magenta plug video cable down from the screen. The solution was to the remove the glove box (which I discovered meant removing the cup holders first) to gain access. I could easily do the entire installation again now in 40-50 minutes. The unit did indeed come with 2013 AU/NZ maps and was coded up based on my answers to a series of questions about installed options in my car. However I had no sound at all, no TV and no media playback. Navigation worked perfectly out of the box and M-drive and all the service menus were fine. The seller then arranged to send me a USB to serial K+D-CAN cable along with the services of a remote coder. However for various reasons at the time I ended up getting all the appropriate software and DATEN files and did the coding myself after some extensive forum research. In brief I ended up modifying the Vehicle Order and production date of the car to cater for CIC, adjusted the DVD zone and other incorrect settings in the CIC module including the correct TV module setting choice for my installed variant. To get sound back I had to flash update the firmware in the AMP ECU to the latest version. This major step (not for the faint hearted) immediately fixed everything including USB media file playback, voice commands etc. My only remaining issue was no picture from the TV (though I had sound). Turns out the video inputs plug to the back of CIC quad connector needs the pin layout adjusted to suit CIC. It's very quick and simple to do but it took me a lot of digging to find this information. So to sum it up, if you're considering doing this, it's well worth it but I'd highly suggest you get a dealer to update all your ECU software to the latest versions BEFORE you go on this adventure. If my AMP module had the latest software already installed already I wouldn't have had 95% of the issues I did and a 5 min remote coding session would have corrected the very minor issues left. That said I don't regret not doing that first since I learnt a lot because of the issues I overcame entirely myself and I've been having fun making all kinds of feature changes to the car since. Your mileage may vary however. |

I installed a unit from the same seller, all went well!
Has anyone managed to get traffic alerts in the nav at all? I enabled all the TMC options, and the icon is showing up but it's not receiving any traffic info. |

I'm not sure, but I don't think we get live traffic alerts in Australia.

We do get alerts, though I believe it's encrypted - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic...nnel#Australia
I'll try a few more options before giving up |
