Battery Recall + Mods

This may have been answered and I'm sorry if it has. Have an Alpina flash, JB+, and coding done. Anyone have their flash/coding erased with the recall? Also, anyone leave their JB on and have any issues with the dealer?

Dealer/SA recommendations are much appreciated!

I can't speak to the Alpina Flash, but you should probably take the JB4 out (set to Map 0 at the least) and you're coding should be fine. I have the JB4 and full coding and have not had an issue, but I usually take the JB4 out when going in for any warranty work. Safe precaution....

If its the battery recall it should not involve anything in your ecu if im not mistaken. I always take my car in with my chip in and on. Never had problems. Did the recall and no problems except for my battery dying the next day, but it was needing a new one.

lol, OP, you're worried for nothing.

Battery recall involves just examining the battery and its connecting cables. Nothing ECU related.

I'm not planning on taking the car in for this recall, doesn't really seem like a big deal.

Am I wrong?

depends.

Go look where you battery is. If you see the connecting cables are rusting, corroding, or anything resembling an issue or fire hazard, yep, you could be wrong.

Better safe than sorry...

here is a reference thread and step by step on what to look for:
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e63...-recall-6.html
(even though it's for an M6, I'd imagine same principles/steps apply)

don't let this be you (pic from a fellow m5board member)

and view of the battery cable

Thanks for that buddy - I appreciate the link. I'll inspect and then take it in only if I see anything suspicious. I really don't feel like taking everything out of my car unless I really have to.

But isn't the terminal they are replacing at the junction box behind the glove box?

Is that what they're replacing?

I got mine done. I have an amp hooked up to the battery and a tune. The tune's still there. I can't imagine they'd need to wipe a program for this.

Just dropped the car off, don't think anything crazy will happen.

Interesting to note though, he did open the hood and spent a considerable amount of time looking at the area where my JB is before closing it. Almost as though he was looking for it specifically....it's at BMW of Sterling

is the JB located anywhere near where the battery cables are in the engine bay?

If so, is it plausible he was looking at that and the wiring?

No not at all...in any event the car came back fine with no issues....However, I couldn't pass inspection due to cracked thrust rod bushings

Guess I know what project I'll be doing next
