Angel Eye Lights

I have one that went out - Angel Eye or ring light. 2006 E90. The OEM part is approx $50: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...SVSVSI=309.htm

Lots of sellers selling cheap LEDS such as here:

https://www.amazon.com/eBoTrade-6311...+eye+light+e90

Does anyone have experience with the cheap LEDs? Do they trip the fault code?

Thanks all.

I've used eBay angel eyes on mine in the past. They don't trigger a fault code but flicker for 2-3 sec when you start the car due to the car's system check. It bothered me enough to get Mtec LEDs. I also have the OEM pieces sitting around the garage if you want to stick to stock lighting.

LUX Angel eyes. No reason to screw around with any other brand. The Pre-LCI LUX are the same price as the OE 10W incandescent bulb replacements. They are plug-and-play.

Out in the boonies where I live with no street lights and no traffic, you can practically drive with them.

Lux is the best way to go.

Totally improved the "look" & visibility.

Plug & play, and no issues with my set.

+1 for lux angel eyes, got them 3 months ago and they look just as nice in the day as when you're headlights are on at night... worth the $100 none of those cheap eBay bulbs will last as long nor have the same brightness and reliability

yeah mine too. Mine flicker on start up for like 3 secs.. does not bother me much. It was a pain to replace them... I replaced both since one went out on me back in 2009 I think.. I paid about 20 bucks and they are still working...

Is this a fact or something you are making up because you believe in brand marketing. You do know your 100 dollar lights are made in the same Chinese factory as the ebay ones?

Have you ever compared Ebay lights to Lux ones?
I have and they are nowhere on the same level of quality, brightness and do not last nearly as much.

Not to mention most of them flicker like the user before me just mentioned

Inner Rings only lighting up.

Anyone have an issue with just the inner ring lighting up? I bought some leds that are super super bright but the LED's light penetration cannot make it to the outer ring, meanwhile incandescent bulbs have no problem. I doubt the lux will fix that...

Any input?

Only way to fix the discrepancy between the inner and outer halo is by doing custom LED work

I have used Chinese LED replacements before such as my TYC led tail lights and they have lasted years so far. They look the same as OEM as well. My LED angle eyes brightness is similar to lux but no way to really know unless I can measure the lumens output of both lux and Chinese led.

This is why I hate this forum. This guy comes here looking for options to replace his dead angel eye but gets shilled the most expensive way to fix it with some name brand LED. The LUX LEd replacement set is 125 dollars, the Chinese replacement is 20 and flickers when you start up. Here is another option no one talked about. He can go to autozone and replace just the bulb for 3 bucks.

Not everyone wants to spend insane amounts of money to have the very best when cheap will make a decent replacement.

So you did not compare them but you still are saying they are the same

OP asked a question, people are giving him suggestions that they used on their cars and are happy with.
You gave your opinion as well, OP is free to go with whatever he thinks is better.

LUX makes their own products using Cree LED components. Both are US companies. Cree does have a Chinese factory, but it is their own factory and not a Chinese contract manufacturer.

One can replace the 10W incandescent bulb if they know how to modify the OE housing. The LUX product is of high quality and fully lights both rings. If buying OE light module for $50 each, the LUX V70 costs a little bit more but is far a superior solution. I drive my car 3 times the average person does. I swapped to LUX about 2 years ago and have no issues with the LUX product. I used to go the cheap route and replace the bayonet base 10W blub, and was replacing them every 6 to 12 months. I decided to upgrade to the LUX bulbs and have been highly satisfied with the results.

My 2 cents.

Thank you all for the detailed info and recommendations. A very nice forum member PM'd me and offered to send me one of his extra (he actually sent 2) for the price of postage. I paid his postage and a bit extra so he could go buy a nice 12 pack of beer on me for his efforts!
