This is usually what happens, trade in only comes with one key because previous owner lost it. If it is a CPO car, CPO requires car comes with all keys, if it is not CPO, dealer can sell it however they want, since a key is expensive, they usually pass the savings onto the customer and don't provide the additional key unless you refuse the car without it and then maybe they will do it.

Got both keys when I purchased mine.
One looked brand-new (probably never used), the other started to wear off the writing on the back. Other than that in great shape, and both work.

Dealer only had one key. I asked during negotiation and made sure they would order a second and got it in writing.
I won't accept a a car with one key.

I never got around to getting a spare and I just did not have my car the whole week because of it. Now even if it was not a CPO car, I don't understand how a car that was a lease doesn't come with two keys. With Mercedes when I turned in my lease I had to turn in 2 keys. BMW does not require this? I haven't leased a BMW, so this is speculation, but perhaps the requirement to return with 2 keys is the same... but if the key was lost, they may just assess a penalty charge to that customer (or not, if they value their business), and just not bother to source a new key for the next buyer.

I also only got one key with mine. I live >400 miles from where I bought the car, otherwise I'd be a bit worried about a key to my car floating around somewhere.
I intend to get a second from here. $311 for a blade but no CA. https://store.bimmernav.com/products...nt=36479239692 |

They probably sell the extra keys on ebay and leave you with just one.

My 06 came with 3 keys. My main key, my spare key, and the wallet key.

For those that live in CA, here's a cheaper way to get your 2nd or 3rd key: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1389681

Just bought a 2011 335is without comfort access with only one key. Looked up the BMW part numbers here.
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=41_1759 Remote: 66126986583 Key: 51217139710 Ordered a remote and cut key from thebmwminipartstore.com for $211.50 shipped. They are a BMW dealer. https://thebmwminipartstore.com/part...&siteid=218365 https://thebmwminipartstore.com/part...&siteid=218365 |

My first BMW was an E46 and it came with only one key. When I bought the E92, I made sure that there were two. A smart negotiator will use it to leverage a better deal.
