335i possible rod knock

Hello friends,
I have recently developed an intense paranoia of rod knock in my 335i. I took this video from the inside of the car, it seems to be the loudest inside with the windows rolled up and when the car is cold. I do quite a bit of short drives but I take it for an oil change every 2.5k miles. I have a few morning stutters but never enough to trigger a fault code. I'm seriously losing sleep over this issue and I am praying it's something but a bad rod bearing.

I can’t hear anything of concern in that video. More noise when cold is to be expected of course as almost nothing is in tolerance until warmed up.

Sorry my computer is not letting me see your posted video. If you are worried about rod knock before you even try to start the car again, drain the oil and pull the oil filter.

IF the rod bearing are going you should see tiny shiny bits of metal in the filter and or oil. We had an old E36 that happened to. With our car you could hear the rod knock from up the street. It was really loud. The metal shavings will very quickly get all through the motor and destroy it. Good luck.

I've been driving like this for a couple weeks at least so it's kind of too late for that if it really is rod knock. It's sort of quiet outside the car. The problem is I work 70 hours a week so I'm usually too tired to do anything after that

Next time you change the oil send sample to oil analysis.

It sounds like normal valve clicking when cold to me. Rod knock is much louder.

I've asked a few more people in the n54 community including BMW Fanatic, they said they don't hear anything, funny how being anxious will make you hear things that aren't really there...
Thank you for your reply!

Yeah just to put your mind at ease....

You would not be able to barely drive the car with a rod knock problem. It would just sound like a bunch of marbles and produce barely any power.

If at load it doesnt get louder itprob isnt rod knock. Video from engine bay would be much better. N54 and esp n52 are known for air in the hydraulic lifters which is worse with some brand oils google bmw lifter bleed and follow procedure takes 5 min and no tools your sound should stop. Rod knock is more of a hollow chilling sound that is worse at cold start will statt to quiet at idle and you touch gas and comes back sec you touch gas. You will have full power early on but a high spedd pass would have increased volume and frequency of the knock so you would know by now.

I just has ******* **'* installed so I was goofing around doing pulls, my boost guage said I was at 20 psi at times and the car behaved very well, and I can cruise highway speeds with no issue, but when I'm going relatively slow at around 2.5k I can hear a rapid sound when I roll the windows up. The sound is not present at idle. And I've been suspect of this sound for a couple months at this point.

Nah, these motors are solid; you won't have a rod knock. they're forged too.

Plenty of these cars running around with 250+k miles

I am getting these exact same symptoms. I do not think it is rod knock but sure is scary. haha. I am told this can be from the fuel vent valve, but have yet to replace mine.

Did you figure out what it was?
