ED Question - has anyone visited Sardinia during their ED trip?

We are driving along the coast and will be stopping in Piombino. Thinking of taking a ferry over to Sardinia. Has anyone done it? Any recommendations? How long is the trip? Should we make accomodations to stay over night? Did anyone take the car over to the island or left it on mailand?

Where are you going to turn your car in for transport back to the U.S.?
