My N54 is running great thread!

As I was browsing through this section this morning I was thinking that you could really get depressed about your car if you spend too much time here. It seems like nearly everyone who has an N54 is spending time chasing vacuum leaks...or wastegate rattles...or dirty solenoids...or oil leaks...or...

Well...I'm happy to say that my car is running great right now. It looked like I might have an issue with the knock sensor but that seems to have resolved for the time being. The idle is smooth and it pulls hard all the way to the redline...and I was grinning ear to ear driving to work this morning...

Who else has an N54 that's running great right now?

An N54 that "for now" works. We all have had those days once in a while. Mine runs great actually other than the slipping clutch with only 70k on the car. Lol

Only real engine issues I’ve had were a bad 02 sensor and a leaky injector over the last 2+ years.

Mine appears to be happy at the moment. I've only put about 600 miles on her since I bought her, but she certainly flies!

Mines currently running perfectly fine. I personally think the whole n54 being super unreliable is a bit blown out of proportion.

The following are the engine related problems i've had so far in my 4 years of ownership and i'm pretty sure I would have had most of these problems even if I had a n52 or n55.

- vanos solenoids
- ofhg, valve cover gasket, oil cooler gasket
- low pressure fuel sensor
- water pump
- radiator

So far so good, I've replaced spark plugs, coil packs, fuel injectors, lpfp, valve cover gasket,coolant/transmission flush. oil changes. oil cooler filter housing gasket. Soon to be replacing rear shocks with bilstean b4 and rear upper control arms, front bilstein b4 struts and new strut mounts along with H&R sports springs for my 335xi e92. It has 151k and rear shock is leaking on one side so I thought might as well swap out suspension all around. Lifetime replacement parts from FCPEuro can't go wrong since I plan on keeping the car for a while.

I'm on my second n54 powered 335, both got injectors and water pumps. Definitely long periods of problem free driving through. I love this car.

Ha. You really don't want to come back for a few months. We are cooking down here this week. Have a good, cooler 4th.

My n54 was running great for the past month. Until today, then it started misfiring no reason at all. New everything.

Its kinda sad that even in a post" My N54 is running great thread!" people still have problems listed.
My car is running great. Just had someone in the parking lot today ask me how my car was running and if it was reliable. I said yes, their pretty cheap go buy one.

Mine just rolled over 158k a day ago. I put on about 5-600 miles a week, usually.
I've been changing the oil every 7k, now I'm starting to do it every 3, because I get the oil for free and it certainly won't hurt anything.

I'm on my original clutch, and the original turbos. Stage 2 with catless DP's as the only hardware mod, been stage 2 for at least 12k and I was stage 1 for at least 10k before that. Turbos still hold 16 psi right on target! Pulls great all the way to 7k, but there's never really a time on the street that that's necessary when I've got gobs of torque everywhere.

I think my clutch is about to be on it's way out, which is reasonable.

Cause they never stay running great lol, could walk out and it would run just fine again. Other than that it is great. Drove it home halfway across the country, added mods and daily it. All is well other than my stupidity of a 4500 clutch dump and a snapped axle. Some days are just temperamental, well all have them. We had 95% humidity today, so once it goes down im sure it'll be good to go again.

Well I’m back in the running fine category again. I’ve been off work since July 4th and I decided that the 5th would be a great day to knock out some projects on my car. I changed the diff oil and power steering fluid and installed my 5” stepped intercooler.

While test driving after the intercooler install I got the dreaded limp mode light. Codes came up for the knock sensor again. I decided to clean the vanos solenoids and the MAP sensors. I started up after I did the vanos and the idle was smoother and limp mode was gone. The MAP cleaning was just lagniappe...

Went for a test drive tonight and I got up to 6000 rpm several times with no codes and the intercooler piping intact...I wonder if it’s just me, but when I get the car back together it takes me a few days before I’m ready to really flog on it again...like if I go easy it’ll pay me back with some trouble free driving time...

Had mine for 4 years and have only had a turbo failure last year. Bought the car with 50k now has 70k went full bolt on right away and then e60 inlets a year ago when the turbo failed at 22psi. Ran 11.9 at 119 last year hoping to run mid 11s or better with drag radials when I get a chance to go to the track soon.
