AC/Heat fan not working on e90?

My climate control fan is not working/blowing at all, although the LED screen tells me it is. Anyone know what's up?

Have you checked for a blown fuse yet?

Yup check the fuse for the blower motor first. Then I would go to the blower motor itself next. Fuses are in the glovebox behind a little trap door.

Edit: just saw you have the same car as me. It could be a multitude of issues w the system. Easiest thing to check is fuse first. Then the final stage resistor and the blower motor. There was a service bulletin out for the blower motor burning out due to leaking cowl cover but unless you have water on your pass side floor then I would rule out the leak. But that doesn't mean the motor couldn't have burnt up regardless

My blower motor failed because water got on it and my passenger floor was NEVER wet.

Same. Just had mine replaced under CPO warranty. Common problem w/our cars, unfortunately.

1. Check fuses, easiest possible solution
2. If no fuses, theres this resistor thing that blows that you need a mechanic to replace. I forget what it's called...Load resistor, power resistor, shunt, or something funny. Happened to me dealer fixed for free.

Hope this helps...

I had the same issue a few months back. i ended up ordering the blower motor from Tischer and replacing it myself. Not a difficult job, just a little awkward working in the passenger footwell. There's a good DIY writeup on here. The part was about $120 IIRC.

Hi Guys

I have a 320 d es and the blower motor has stopped working. Does anyone know how to determine if its a resistor or the full motor thats broke. Can you please give me a heads up as to where to source these parts etc,

I think for me it was all of a sudden the fan stopped working, the display stayed, the numbers changed, but there was no air movement. For me it was the "Final Stage Unit" FSU, the blower motor resistor thing. If it was all of a sudden, I'm guessing your problem is the same. If it happened over time maybe it's the blower. I heard my problem was common, from my SA.

Here's a link to the DIY for the blower motor/resistor replacement. I used the part # listed in the thread and ordered from tischer bmw.

I am also having the same problem. Suddenly the fan stopped blowing, about a week ago. However, over the winter I've noticed that when the weather was cold the heater would make a cricket noise for the first 10 seconds or so and it goes away. I think that was the blower making that noise, now I thought about it more. Is that mean it was going bad over time, therefore most likely the blower is busted rather than the resistor things mentioned above? I've already replaced the fuse, but no luck.

I know the 'cricket' noise you speak of. Just had my fan replaced. Still makes the noise now and again.

Tonight, I was able to "revive" my blower motor with a little air tool oil on the shaft of the fan. I'm going to be on the lookout for a used on though.

Mine does leak, any suggestions on what to do? I'm gonna check it myself later as soon as I get the chance. Btw I already found the part on ECS Tuning for $96.68

I have a 335i 2007 E90 and the inside blower is not working, with a multimeter there is no voltage coming to the motor or resistor (tried all setting high) checked all fuses. still no voltage coming on the Motor/resistor . Climate control panel all green lights and it functions normal . That happened after changing water pump/thermostat.
any ideas

Just had mine replaced on my 09 328. If you can, avoid the stealership on this one If possible. You can order a OEM blower motor online for between 140.00-170.00, the glove box has to be removed after that It's plug and play. It's only a 30-40 min job tops. My mechanic charged me 60.00 to put In.

yeah once you hear that cricket noise coming from the vents, It's time to replace the blower motor before It stops on you completely. I played myself and waited and It died on me on the first 95 degree day . Then I had to wait four more 90 degree days for the part to come.

Took my car in last week with this same issue. The BMW dealer said that the blower motor had gone bad. So they had to replace the blower motor and wiring associated with it. Since it was under CPO warranty it got fixed.
