DPF Delete

ok amigos I know Im going to get ragged by our mother earth friendlies but frankly i dont care. yesterday I went to check to see if we can get the DPF and gut it out and put a stainless steel pipe thru and have it welded. The mufller shop told me it was going to be around $250 for the job, so were planning into doing in a couple of weeks, why you say? well the guy is going on vacation for one, two i have to coordinate with my amigo from Poland, three I have to do before and after dynos to SHUT up some skeptics. As we looked under the car yesterday, that damn DPF is uncomfortable to remove and it has a FLEX mesh pipe going into the Urea slash NOX sensor(made out of steel) and that my friends is very restrictive , it goes from around 3" to a around 2" which where the urea mist and NOX sensors are and then escapes back to I beleive a 2.5"(mind you Im guestimating here, ok) . I also spoke to the guy and suggested going 3" all the way thru, he looked at the exhaust tubing and he told me that to leave it as it is, why? cause, he said that even though it is FLATTEN it has the measurements of a 3" pipe therefore, he states i would be spending my money. He has made 3" tubing for 335i's and he stated that the noise level was minimal and of course he also stated that DIESELS are different but with different tones. So, you guys can start to hate me or whatever once we're done we will see.

Now, you ask why Im doing this? well, for one I had bad experience with the UREA pump actually desintegrating, NOX sensors gone bad and of course not the correct MPG's and HP we should be having. My Polish friend will try to load the european version of the 286 hp I6 Twin turbo map on mines so wish me luck and also he will give me the Euro mapping for DPF and all its BS removed thats why. Oh BTW Im looking into moving to Cosat Rica eventually and there is no test that Im aware of if so I will do my best to pass it

Yes, I will take the day OFF and take video of everything also with sound video etc etc . Let the games begin!!!!

Yes, these are my VMR 710 18" Sunken Treasure with Mech PSS

Just spoke to Lenny and he told me he will look into the EGR tuning he also advised me that if I do the DPF Delete for one I have to have it remove from DDE and not drive the car until the ACTUAL DPF is gutted out otherwise car may not function, so some changes to my planning i may have to fly into lake park or have the actual DPF gutted then flyout to RENNtech and reinstall DDE which I beleive is the only proper way

Surprised he would do that as the EPA would have him pay big fines.

I dont understand this whole EPA thing. I guess the tuners need to have a checkbox on their store that you sign your life away swearing that the vehicle it is being installed on is off highway only, and they need to be careful to always advertise with that caveat. The idea that you can get fined because someone uses your product improperly is beyond me.

Tuners who are willfully compliant with providing a service or product that allows someone to circumvent a federal law. It's that simple.

I have an old friend who had to sign a waiver for a tuner to remove the DPF, add a tune, upgraded injectors etc on his diesel Jeep. It was your typical "off road use only" waiver.

The EPA could really put a stop to it by requiring an inspection which required confirmation of roll cages, racing harness, appropriate race tires. Basically make it such that the vehicle is race ready prior to modification to the emissions system.

Greek I hv 14 k left so Im planning to do it regardless, remember your warranty voids for given parts i.e. if your tune messes up your tranny or blows your engine(they would have to confirm your DDE was modded) then its void or even if the ECu is tampered it voids also. Haivng modded my last few cars as long as you stay within the parameters of breaking it chances are your car will last an enternity i.e. my 02 MCS is still running @ 175k as of today!!!

its not against federal law to remove a DPF on an off highway vehicle, a manufacturer shouldnt be liable for the misuse of their product.

Exactly and they're not. Safe to say many people circumvent the law. No different than someone getting their chihuahua certified as a "service dog" so they can fly between countries and avoid quarantine.

I agree amigo but I'd be worried if I did all that work and then the dealer used it all against me as a "reason" something else went wrong, even under warranty.

I was speaking to a gent this evening that was the manager for engine development for PACCAR (Kenworth, Peterbilt, etc.) and was questioning him about the emissions systems on diesel engines.

After talking to him, I'm going to say you need to remove or bypass the EGR if you're going to remove the DPF, as you will increase soot loading dramatically - probably give you rapid carbon buildup.

Don't say I never did anything for you. even if I dislike what you're doing.

That would only make sense for a low pressure (post dpf) egr circuit. Our egr is already unfiltered, removing the dpf wouldn't have any impact on soot in our egr circuit
