Getting rid of the Y split in exhaust

I'm wondering if anyone has done an exhaust that goes single all the way back (without the split at the end of the downpipe).

I have a catless downpipe that has the split as they all do and then the cat back reconnects to a single 3.5" going all the way back (like the VRSF exhaust). As I am sure many have thought of doing, I am tempted to cut out and replace the split with a single pipe to have it go 3.5" from the turbo all the way back to the muffler but wonder if there is anything to gain from this.

If anyone has done this, I would love to hear what the result is like and if there is any difference.

My car is tuned, has a catless downpipe, and a 7" intercooler.

Yes it has been done. It is usually a custom downpipe as most manufactures don't see selling a downpipe that doesn't fit the factory exhaust as a profitable move. I personally like the dual exit unless you want to get a 328 rear bumper.

I am not necessarily referring to getting rid of the double tips (I like them too), I am referring mainly to exhausts like the VRSF exhaust where it splits right after the downpipe and then re-joins immediately into the single 3.5" and continues until the rear where it splits again. I am talking about just eliminating the split after the downpipe. I am sure the flow would be better but wonder if it actually makes a difference. Thanks.

I know VSRF was considering offering this as an option for those wanting a full turboback at one point. Not sure they ever went forward with it.

only reason i was thinking about doing this was if the y split into 2 was a restriction vs the 1

In an absolute sense, of course it's a restriction since the flow will be interrupted by the split but the question is will removing it actually create any benefit. It appears that most think it will not.
