E91 Engine Stumbles/Stutters during Shifts

Hi All!

I am not sure how to explain what is happening other than the engine stumbles or stutters. It happens usually during moderate acceleration and most noticeably during 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. It might happen during light acceleration but you don't feel it, I guess the same at WOT.

Occasionally (and pretty much 100% of the time during 2-3 shift), it will stumble/stutter then continue to "mis" until I shut the car off and restart it.

It also seems to happen more when it's cold than when it's up to temp. But even at temp it still happens some.

There are no codes present except an EVAP code 2A16 that I have been getting every now and then for a LONG time and never been able to find the cause.

Any ideas?? VANOS maybe?? Although, I don't seem to have any other VANOS issues.

Thanks for your time!

My suggestion to check the MAF. I had the stutter in my 07 and the connector was cracked I did a temp zip tie to hold it in place and it went away. I'm sure some one else will have a few more suggestions. Do you have access to ISTA?

M-technik-3 Thank you for your reply!

I am almost 100% sure now that it's the VANOS solenoid. It finally threw the 2A87 code. I will try replacing both solenoids and see if it goes away. fingers crossed!
