New VC and gasket - Now Smoke

All,
I just finished replacing my valve cover, valve cover gasket, and eccentric shaft sensor. When I started the car, it idled roughly for a few seconds and died. The instrument panel showed the image of the car jacked up.

When I started it again, it idled rough but did not shut off. This time, the only indicators were brake lamp failure (I must have a short somewhere) and input date and time. Upon looking through the crack beneath the hood (which was up) 10 seconds later, I noticed smoke coming out. I couldn’t pinpoint the location, but it seemed to come from down in the engine bay near the passenger firewall.

This is my first time doing this, so it concerned me quite a bit. Is this likely residual oil that spilled out while changing the gasket? Could it be anything else? It happened seconds after starting the car.

Thank you

Had the same issue after I changed my Valve Cover and Gasket. It's more than likely residual oil from the change. My engine smoked intermittently for about 2 days afterwards but haven't had an issue since.

Thank you for your responses. I did not receive a notice that you had responded. There is no longer smoke, and the smell of burning oil, which precipitated the repair, has vanished. It was likely residual oil.

Onto the next problem. Upon reassembling everything, I left #3 coil out to install the bottom VANOS bolt. I then started the car. Noticing the rough idle and the SES light, I shut the car off and installed the coil. The car is running normal now and has +60 miles on it since the change. However, the the SES light is still on. The codes are P0303 (third cylinder misfire) and three P0010 codes (A Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1)). Last night, I unplugged the battery for 5 minutes, but the light persists.

Today, the front passenger window automatically rolls down halfway when one attempts to roll it up.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help
