can you add/code cheap parking sensors?
I want to add parking distance sensors to my 2007 E93 with IDrive Nav. can you add aftermarket sensors but code them like BMW sensors? Or you cars with parking distance sensors have a whole extra control box and harness for Those sensors? Or is there a way to buy an aftermarket parking sensor kit and integrated to buy cars screen somehow? I do have the I drive system.

Hi,
If you are satisfied with rear sensors only, you should be able to get a s/hand PDC module and 4 sensors from a wrecker. Patching it into the vehicle harness will take some effort, but if you retrofit only the rear sensors then most of the wiring is between the rear bumper and the module near the fuel filler flap, so you can easily split out this wiring from the wreck / parts donor. ( including the plug for the PDC module). The sensors could be difficult to fit without re-paint of the bumper. You may be lucky to drill the holes and clean up the edges without re-paint, but it may be visible that it is a retrofit. (not totally hidden by the rubber seal around the sensors). Cheers, |

The PDC module requires CANbus and power. (in addition to the wires from the sensors). Have a look at the wiring diagrams before deciding if you will be patching it in yourself, or purchase the non-oem retrofit kit suggested.

No real need. Since there is an official BMW retrofit, it's well documented on how to do it.
I just looked on Ebay, and I saw a rear harness with sensors for $99. I've seen the control modules go for less than $50. It should be pretty easy to retrofit for less than $200.
