Weird issue with OBD2

Hey there!

2006 E90 325i

So, I had a leak on my rad, there are some shops here that build and changes the side tanks so I gave it a try while I get a new rad.

Took the rad out and dropped it at the shop, they fixed it for me and while installing it, I noticed the fan connector was broken and had the positive lead exposed. Unfortunately, while I was getting the fan in, the cable moved, touched the chassis and arched (At the strut mounting point).

Everything in the car works perfectly fine, however, when I connect my OBD2 scanner (Carly) it will connect but when I go to live data (As I was looking at temps because of the rad repair) all the values are 0.00, when I scan the car, it only scans the multimedia module, it does not scan anything else, as if it wasn't able to read/communicate with other modules. Scanner and phone works, I scanned a few other cars to make sure it wasn't the scanner.

I also hooked INPA and I'm able to read codes and see live data, plus I registered the battery using Tool32 as I thought it was an issue a battery reset overnight could solve and I had to register the battery then to make the airbag light go away.

So, in a nutshell, I'm able to read codes and see live data, also able to check all the modules and read from them using INPA, but not using Carly.

Any clues? Did I fry the JBE or something?

TIA!

You should take this to the general section . (This is the stereo section)
See if you can get George to help you , he likes doing technical problems.
You must have and be prepared to use Voltmeters and diagnostics .
List what you have and what you have done and provide details.

Be prepared with the following readouts.
Inpa functional jobs F3 and F4 provides readouts of all the modules
the car see's and can communicate with.

Airbag light usually means there is something wrong with the BST if you haven't
been in an accident.

Do you have and N52 or N51 engine.

Read the electrical training pdf's at the E9X references below.

Hey there CTuna THanks for your reply!

I thought this subforum was for electrical issues, lol.

How can I move the post to the correct subforum?

N52B25AE engine. Managed to clear airbag light off. I just needed to re-register the battery, managed to do so using Toolset32 and light is off. Drove 50ish miles today and is not coming back.

Here's what I have from INPA. It looks like either 10 modules were replaced in the past and were not coded to the car (Which I don't think it's the case), or something bad happened when the rad fan arched the chassis.

Although the VIN is not there, all the modules work with no issues at all. No codes stored or anything. Also, the car is non xdrive, that's why VIRTSG92 says it's not supported. I don't know, I'm starting to suspect that Carly just stopped working with my car or something. Everything works good, I'm able to read and even code stuff using advanced tools, all modules seem to be talking to each other, and so on. Normal operation, no limp mode, no warnings in the dash, all systems working good (Even the fan, which was the thing that arched)

Thanks!

EDIT: All the date codes for the modules are 2005, so I don't think they were replaced.

The motor DID get replaced in 2009 under warranty (VANOS).

I would just start another thread in the general forum if you are still
having problems.

So, Carly support got back to me. This is what they have to say after saying "It's an issue we don't have a solution for".

Lol
