135i Part would fit 335i?

Does anyone know if a 2008 e88 135i steering column would fit straight on a 2008 e92 335i?

Quick look at ETK says yes it should fit. Would need VINs of both cars to be 100% sure.

Is this to fix an SAS? If so have you tried cleaning the optical disk?

Also if the steering lock is stuck that can be reset with Tool32

Yes its to fix the SAS which is giving no cruise control, DTC, flat tyre monitor and DBC.

Never tried the SAS DIY fix. I heard the cleaning of the optical disk is only temporary and that the problem will come back? Or is it worth a try? Doesn't look too hard.

Nevermind its not the issue you are suffering from. What I was talking about is if the electronic steering lock wont unlock and you get an error icon on your dash with a padlock and steering wheel.

Just replace the steering angle sensor, replacing the column won't fix it. Its not that expensive to get a 2nd hand one from ebay if cleaning it doesn't work. Cleaning it should fix it for a pretty long time, the lube they use crystallizes over time, but this process is very slow and shouldn't come back anytime soon (years).

AH OK! maybe I should give it a try then. I'm getting the complete steering column including the steering unit with the indicators from a e88 135i as I heard replacing the steering unit would get rid of the SAS codes if the DIY fix doesn't work since you are replacing the SAS with another SAS from another steering unit. Is that true?

I wouldnt replace the whole column, thats a massive job and has nothing to do with the optical sensor issue. Whoever told you the column had to be replaced doesnt know what theyre talking about

The steering angle sensor is pretty easy to get to (just remove steering wheel and some trim). Have you scanned the codes?

Oh ok! Yeah I'm getting steering angle sensor plausibility code.

And is this the DIY fix?

Looks like there needs to be soldering involved. I don't really want to touch the electricals...

OH so it is just cleaning the optical disk with an alcohol wipe then put everything back together? Don't need to follow the soldering steps?
