the last 1.5" or so of the mirror is made to reflect in such a way that it pretty much eliminates the blind spots of the car

There is a slight visual curve to them which takes awhile to get used to but when you do you have a much better view to the rear, a more complete view.

I presumed it was the mirrors and didn't investigate further. I had dark tint so I ended up coding out the autodimming feature altogether.
