The short answer is no. Someone has done a retrofit, but it took months and cost twice what buying the feature from the factory would cost.

so just to clarify i can buy the whole system (i.e. Screen, dash kit, knob, wiring) from the dealer... and if so how much would you estimate it would cost.

$5000 - $6000 USD.

Yes, it can be done. There is no retrofit kit, per say, but if you are mechanically inclined, it can be done. Don't count on any dealer being able/willing to do this for you....if you don't plan on doing it, it might be cheaper/easier to buy another car.

However, if you're like me, you can follow my thread and there is a PDF of sorts with instructions:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131416

And no...it doesn't take months (it took that long to figure the retrofit out), but it can be done in a day, and for less than the cost of the OEM option. No one has done a 2nd-gen i-drive retrofit yet, but is there is a thread that follows that as well...

Boster4075,

I like to congratulate you on a first class write up about the Navigation/iDrive installation. I just got myself a 2009 Z4 35i with all the options except for the iDrive at least I know now that A) it can be added and B) it will properly be very costly. Anyone out there has installed a iDrive or had it installed into a 2009 Z4 35i please let me know I would appreciate some feedback

Thanks! You should probably check to see if your car should be equipped with the new 2nd-gen CIC i-drive (which I suspect it may.) - if so, there is another thread going for that retrofit (its quite a bit different and definitely more challenging) and a few people are having some success. You may also want to post this question on the Z4 forum if you haven't already to see if other people are looking into it there..
