The NA Premium 2018 map came divided into 3 segments which worked fine for 8GB sticks. My CIC for some reason never recognized bigger USB drives such as the 32GB. That's where my problem is I believe. The map should be good, downloaded yesterday from the torrents. Will pick up a new 32GB stick and do it all over again and will report back. Thanks again!!!

I just read about a same issue, and the guy used exFAT formatting which was the solution for him. I am reformatting exFAT and see... I highly doubt it will work but I got time

Update: YUP, total failure LOL

While the files are transferring I found this guy on the Tube mentioning the 2020 map using 3 USB drives. If nothing works, I will just download the 2020...

With CIC, older firmware can only update via DVD, whereas newer firmware can support update via USB. If car supports USB Update (which yours does), Size of USB does not matter, so long as it is a Fat32 formatted USB 2.0 Drive. There is no such thing as an official 3-Part USB version. What you see is the 3-DVD Version simply copied disc for disc to 3-USB Drives. The official USB version is always a Single USB Drive.

It's on that video... 3 USB sticks the same way I update the 2018-1. Also the 2020 map is out there that needs 4 USB sticks. I am reading the info on this forum, not making it up. In any event I am downloading the 4 USB 2020 version as we speak. Thanks.

You are not understanding. The 3-USB and 4-USB versions you can find out there online are actually DVD versions where each 8 GB Double Sided Double Density DVD is put to a single 8 GB USB Drive. The only point is CIC has no size restriction on USB Drive. The issue you are having is not that your CIC can't handle a 32 Gb USB Drive.

Understand what you are saying. This guy had the same issue... was successful with multiple drives but his CIC doesn't see the 32GB:

I don't doubt that, but the issue is likely the source map data rather than the USB Drive size.

Finally nailed it and update successful

After many tries, somehow thanks to a post I was able to figure out that the stick was being formatted as a GPT instead of an MBR FAT32 . It took about a minute to give me the update screen while I was driving but it updated successfully to 2021. Thanks for your help!!

Ps: Not sure if I got those letters correctly, smoking a cigar at my lounge

Will exFAT format work and is there a storage size limit on the USB that is used?

Use a USB 2.0, Fat32 Formatted Drive. No size limitation as far as I know, although I would stick to a 32 GB USB Drive.

Oh that sucks, huge transformations in this part of Phoenix... In the last 2 years an amazing number of new roads and developments popped up and the 2021 doesn't show any of them.

Looks like Premium 2022 has fallen through the cracks and they no longer care.

sadly you may be correct... seems like when my ex's E46 got to be ~12 years old ish that's when they stopped releasing map updates for that system so while this is disappointing it's not completely unexpected. Well, I guess my car is as updated as it will ever be now. I haven't used the nav in ages since I started running Waze on my cell phone; wish there were some kind of lashup where I could just mirror my phone's screen on the car's.
