Cheapest insurer with choice of repairer

Received my comprehensive insurance renewal yesterday from RACV, and the monthly premium went up from $107 to $133! Had no claims in the past year with them; don't know why for the 25% increase...

Anyway, I would like to know who's everyone insured with and how much you're paying. Not looking for a lot of perks for my 2007 e92 325, as long as I can have choice of repairer and maybe free windshield replacement per policy period, I will be satisfied. Thanks.

Depends on ur age, area, demographic, 2dr or 4dr, body style, twin turbo or na, gender, where its stored, hilly or not hilly, close to bush or not, excess level etc.. so you can not compare unless you find someone very similar to you in age model area claim history options selected.. also claims in the area such as floods or hail damage effect the risk rating of your whereabouts. I work in insurance..

I’d just be finding out if your chosen repairer is on their list.

When insuring my M3 with RACV, I didn’t need choice over repairer as BMW Bodyshop in Port Melb is on their approved list.

RACV don't offer no claims bonus anymore, they work out the discount based on the colour of your membership - bronze, silver and gold etc. You will have to pay extra for the choice of repairer option.

I've already switched to Allianz.

I'm with Shannons, not the cheapest but their PDS terms, free windscreen, NCB and a decent agreed value do suit my circumstances quite well (modded E92 335i, more or less a weekender).

Thanks for all the replies. For the similar coverage I'm getting from RACV, I was quoted $82/month from AIG, and $97/month from Allianz. Since the car is 11 years old, there won't be an agreed value to the vehicle, instead I will just get market value. Oh well...

I was with Allianz, as the cheapest with choice of repairer. But when I modified my car, they wouldn't insure it, so went with Shannons.

Does anyone know what mods you have to list and what are not necessary?
Like wheels and intercooler could easily be damaged in a crash but upgraded turbos or inlets potentially wouldn't.
I know some of it is duty of disclosure, and also some would be a loss if the car was a write off if not listed.
It seems like Shannons are fairly mod friendly.

Shannon’s are the only insurers that recognise mods afaik
Problem is if you spent heaps on mods and you write off your car you can’t get a payout and buy the car and parts back. If anyone knows if you can then please share. Otherwise it would not be worth making a claim if the mods are worth more then the car

General rule of thumb is to list every mod you know about, otherwise you risk not being covered for what you didn't disclose, or worst case your insurer finds out about undisclosed mods during the claim process and uses it as a means to weasel out of a claim. That will depend on a bunch of factors, especially the nature of the mods and your insurer

Thanks guys. I ended up going with Shannons. Cost was $1000 so I saved $400 there. Listed IC and rims at this point in time. I had quite a good conversation with the rep. He said they are basically OK with mods unless you have spent a lot of money (which we all kind of have done). In that case they would probably increase your premium, but for a lot of FBO stuff I think we're good.
Examples of expensive items could be a built motor, wide body kit and full race setup.

I got a decent quote ~ $990/annum ($700 cheaper than RACV renewal) with AIG through an insurance broker. Never knew that AIG did motor insurance. Anyone here insured with AIG or heard anything about them? Oh, the quote is for comprehensive coverage with choice of repairer and $0 excess windshield replacement. Thanks.
