I havn't tried it yet, but I would just submit the VIN number from the donor car and use this to generate the FSC code when placing the order for the map disk. For this to work assumes that the FSC authorization for the map disks is done solely by the CIC.

When I tried the 2010 maps in my CCC there were roads in my area that had been there for 3 years and still were not on the 2010 map disks, so I am in no hurry to update to the 2010 maps at the current time.

Currently I'm more concerned with how to upgrade the CIC's firmware.

What about the Voice Recognition FSC? Can you get it?

So long as you have the files, I'd imagine you could do it with winkfp "on the bench"?

I'm not bothered so much about sharing the information, sooner or later we are going to find it. My problem is the stupid teasing like we are kids...

Deep down, I was hoping this CIC emulator would interrupt the necessary FSC for the newer maps too.. I guess the map FSC is different...or is it?

..and yes, WinKFP should be able to upgrade the CIC firmware. Question is, will it work on a car without D-Can such as my 9/06. (I'm assuming it will)

In theory, the CIC is the one asking for the activation code and not the car. The emulator takes care of the car talking to the CIC. So as long as you have the VIN coded into the CIC you may be fine loading maps with the activation code based on that VIN.

Of course, somebody has to try it to confirm it.

It is very expensive method as it is necessary to buy updating for an overall cost

Well, the activation codes will cost money anyways unless there's a new hack to update maps without paying for them, correct?

Correct, there are a short series of packets which send the vehicle's VIN to the CIC upon startup.

I've never used WinkFP, but if someone can give me some guidance on how I can change the VIN number in the CIC then I may give it a shot next month with the 2010 maps.

In theory if it does work then there is no reason why you couldn't buy the FSC code and then write that 1 VIN number to many CIC's for use with the emulator.

But that's a project for next month since I've spent way toooo much on my car this month with my water pump just dying on me.

Probably not, unless you just connect the DCAN interface directly to the CIC (outside the car) which you should be able to do.

Great idea. I think you can do it with Tool32 - but I'm not sure, I've never done it....I know it was possible with other ECUs. Of course, the next problem is loading the FSC into the CIC - which a few of the guys above know how to do, but are unwilling to share.

If you use Winkfp, navigation in yours CIC will cease to work.

For updating CIC it is necessary to use Winkfp + interface ICOM

Any other interface kill CIC.

p.s.

If you update CIC - navigation will cease to work, it will need to be activated anew.

Unfortunately it won't be that easy to find a way to change the VIN in the CIC.
It doesn't work like with other ECUs.

I thought that was just a case of inputting the 20 digit number into the CIC with the controller.

That's only applicable to the maps DVDs.
