Does anybody know how?

I have the tire tread depth gauge but how can i get the percentage of the tread 6/32?

Thank you in advance

you need to check what depth the tires came with new. its listed on tire rack under specs. its usually around 10/32nds or 11/32nds

Look up what the tire's tread depth was new and divide. If it was 11/32 and now is 6/32 then 55% of the tread is remaining. Minimum tread wear is 2/32. That would mean 44% of the usable tire is remaining.

lets say your tire has an original tread depth of 10/32nds, your tire measures 8/32nds. min tread depth is 2/32nds.

subtract the min tread depth from the current tread depth. 6/32nds

you can ignore the 32nds since they're all the same unit

6/10= 60% useable tread life.

however, if you're expressing it in terms of % tread (not tread life) left, just divide current tread depth by original tread depth 8/10=80% tread left.

most used tire sales i've seen speak of the tread left, not useable tread life.

the new tire tread depth includes the 2/32nd min tread depth. a new 10/32nd tire really only has 8/32nds of useable tread depth.

Thanks man .....i wanna sell my tires and want to know how much % left so i can't tell the guy, i don't want to say there is 60% left and it actually has 50% of usable treads....you know what i mean .

Ok so, the new tire is 10/32nds (checked on tirerack) MINUS 2/32nds = 8/32nds there is 6/32nds left.
10/32nds MINUS 6/32nd = 4/32nds, then 4/32nds DIVIDED BY 8/32nds = 50% left no?

make it easy, tell them the new tread depth and the current tread depth.
let them do the math and come to the conclusions
