Achilles ATR Sport Tire Review

Some of you might have heard of Achilles Tires, and to some of you this might be the first time you ever heard of them. So yeah I was very curious about these tires because of the cost, the name and lack of reviews. I purchased a new set of 19" M3 replicas from **********s and totally love them. When looking for tires I had some extra cash and decided to buy two sets.

I found that the Achilles ATR Sport tires had many different sizes so I went to 1010tires.com and bought a set:

Achilles ATR Sport - 235/35ZR19
1301279353 $124.99 2 $249.98
Achilles ATR Sport - 265/30ZR19
1301279306 $139.99 2 $279.98
Sub-Total: $529.96

That's before shipping cost which was a resonable $100.

Now to the actual review. Just so we set my experience with tires; I've owned some fairly powerful cars from a 2004 V8 S4 to a 2003 Infiniti G35 to a highly tuned 2002 Audi TT. I have ALWAYS stayed with a brand name tire; Michelin! I know some people might prefer a certain brand but I have always liked how Michelin tires perform.

I purchased the tires about 2 months ago and I wanted to put a lot of miles down before I gave them a fair review. Overall these tires are an awesome find! They are very underrated and because I was so pleased I still have not purchased the second set of "brand" name tires.

These tires make a great summer tire. Obviously I have not tried them out in snow yet, but from the very few reviews out there it doesn't seem like they recommend them for snow.

The wet traction is surprisingly good 8 out of 10. I have tried braking hard in the rain from about 30-35mph and I can't complain. I have also tried accelerating hard out of a corner and again, great traction. Unfortunately I can only compare the Achilles to my previous set of Run Flat Bridestones. Obviously run flats aren't for those craving G-forces and the Achilles definitely out perform the Bridgestone set.

In the dry the tires have excellent grip 8 out of 10. I do NOT have a tune yet and I will update once I do, but I was very pleased with the dry grip factor.

These tires are very quiet at highway speeds!

On all my tests I had traction control ON, then partially off then totally off.

These tires are great for those that:
Want a decent set of tires for 3 of the 4 seasons
Someone who DOES NOT take their car to the track
A daily driver who wants to have a little bit of fun here n there
Someone who is low on cash $$
Someone who is very curious to see how these compare to the big names

If anyone wants me to conduct any particular test let me know. I might do a controlled test with cones, timer and measuring tape lol.... 0-60-0 test? 60-0 test?

This is a fairly quiet tire. No complaints. That being said I know most tires after losing tread most tires become more noisy. But after 6,000 miles these are still ok! My bridgestones were about the same when compared to these in terms of road noise, both fairly quiet.

Hey guys, this is just an update to my review.

I installed a tune (Procede V5) on map1 with pretty much a stock car.

First of all love the Procede but that's for another thread. The car is a little rocket now with lots more torque. This would spell disaster with my previous runflats.

The Achilles are definitely underrated! These things grip! Average temps here in Indiana right now is 95 so the temp is probably helping a bit, but I must say these tires are very nice.

Of course I wouldn't compare them to the top of the line, track performance tire, but hey if you like to have fun with the car once in a while, I really recommend saving some money and going with some Achilles.

My launches are pretty crisp at the light, and this is WITHOUT the Procede traction control on (0%). I tap the DTC button once and this is how I like to launch the car. Totally off gives you too much wheel spin unless you are careful.

Overall I am very happy with these tires and will def. buy another set in the future!

275/30 and 245/35 would have been a better setup. Closer to having same rolling radius

Yes they have very good traction for the price. I want to see how they handle as temperatures drop. Have you used them in cold climate?

Just installed Achilles ATR sport also.
Came off from Bridgestone run flat.
Very smooth rides on new set Achilles, good corner turns, and good grips.
I love it. I'll buy another set when I'm done with these.

I recommend it. 8 out of 10 for sure!

I got these tires in 235/35 and 275/30 on my LCI and I love them. Very impressed. They run true to size as well. Will probably replace with another set when they run their course. I also came off the 18" run flats but mine were new and rode pretty well.

I just ordered a set for my rear tires. I can't wait to get them! I got mine from tires-easy.com. Two Achilles ATR Sport 265/30 R19 93W came to 289.03 shipped. They were 120.90 a piece. Thanks for a great review about these tires. I will post my experience with pics when I get mine installed.

Love those rims, some questions:

1. Did you have to purchase/install anything additional for the m3 rims(spacers etc)?

2. Is it viable to keep two sets of rims and tires to swap out once in a while? I.e. when I purchase a second set and get them installed/aligned etc, will that mess up the wheel settings for the old rims I had, so I would have to stick to one set from then on?

So far so good! I like these tires. I have them on the rear right now size 265/30 19 on a 19x10 wheel. They are smooth and quiet. I am about to get a set for the front tires cause the ones I have on there now are crap which I got with the rims I got from a friend. The fronts are falken 452's and they are loud as all get out cause I think he had his car lowered and because of camber they wore improperly on the insides. So I would say give em a try. I will report back again when I have the fronts on and send some pics.

One pic of the rears!
