Anyone have the Avin 10.25 in their E9x?
Hey everyone
Just wondering if anyone here has the Avin 10.25” or whichever brand head unit/screen in their E9x? The one you have to cut the dash to install. Wanted to get peoples thoughts on it and ask questions if possible. Thanks ! |

If you are looking for a sounds quality boost with it your not going to get it but just the functionality of being able to use CarPlay and navigation on it was worth the price

I am using an Avin unit in my X5, and am loving it, and have become an Android auto junkie. I have sat in the fence about the Avin unit for my non idrive e90, but can't get myself to commit to cutting my dash! Lol.
I just set this up last night and think I have a solution for my need: Using an old 10.1 tablet, I installed an app called Headunit Reloaded. It allows my phone to connect to the tablet and run AA from my phone to my tablet via WiFi. It can interface with my phone to make calls and use my handsets Bluetooth for audio(music, nav and calls). I don't know if the Avin can interface with any of the cars settings(ie idrive type settings) since I don't have idrive, but I don't need or care for it as long as I can have music, calls and nav. And in developer settings I can set up to go to sleep whenever power is disrupted, and power up when power comes on. I am unsure if I will use the large tablet, or a smaller 8”. Will set them up in car and see which one fits best. Will keep you posted! Last edited by avocet; 04-28-2020 at 12:14 PM.. |

I used some Brodit and Proclip mounts I had and modded up a bit and stuck a good quality magnet to it with Kuda mount that mounts to the dash and screws into the centre speaker mount.
http://www2.kudausa.com/mount_popup.php?artikel_id=960 Just used some cheap stick on magnet plate I ordered off ebay. Went and hooned some bumpy high speed off ramps and everything stays stuck! I have been using a magnetic phone holder for some time with no issues and this thing holds tighter! I have just ordered a refurbed, smaller, newer 8" tablet because the 10.1" is a little too overbearing, and it's an old one that I have discovered is quite laggy using wifi to connect to android auto. I have tried it with a newer tablet and it works fine. Headunit reloaded also connects wirelessly my phone to my Avin unit as well! Last edited by avocet; 05-02-2020 at 01:34 AM.. |

Hey I ordered a Tab A T290. I did get an 8" T380 (I really have no idea of the meaning of the model numbers) but it had a bunch of 'flashlighting' around the edges and kept defaulting to 2.4ghz connections instead of the 5ghz. I returned it.
Am still waiting for the new Tab to arrive, but I think it is a better unit from my research. I thought about the $100 dollar tablets and I just don't want to be dealing with shortcomings. It is an easy magnet mount so I can still use this as a tablet(duh) when I travel and/or am not driving my car(don't winter drive it). Sure, I could just go grab a new tablet from Staples or something, but I am a cheap bastard. Lol. I think this thing is around $120 usd shipped, so it is a worthwhile gamble to get a refurb'd unit. Bit of a hassle but just make sure returns are free with included shipping. |

Maybe I'm dumb but how do you actually use Android auto on this unit?
I bought the same one, chose the wired Android auto option, but if I connect an Android phone to the unit via USB nothing happens. I don't see any option to run or set up to get it to work. |
