Hit the 1/4 mile dragstrip today in my 335is!

Finally got a chance to hit the 1/4 today after waiting a couple hours for the track to dry from morning showers.
Anyway, launching off idle with no burnout or spinning the car did a best of 11.6 @130. This is on the e40 file, stage 2 LPFP, and no PI.

The three 1/4 mile runs were as follows. The first run below is when they were limiting to 1/8 mile due to the damp track.

11.73 @ 127.85
11.63 @ 129.01
11.64 @ 130.68

There's something going on with the transmission causing it to short shift from 2nd into 3rd. Also there were a few shifts that didn't feel right, maybe a little firmer than expected.
Otherwise there wasn't too much drama. Definitely felt more solid on the track than on the street.

Sixty footers were an embarrassment @ 2.2 every run, but fully expected.

By the way, boost is limited in 1st (9psi) and 2nd (15psi). In hindsight I should have bumped it up in both. I especially could have used it in 1st - maybe next time.

Below is a link to two datalogs if you're curious. The drag radials apparently are throwing off the speedo around 7mph which was only obvious to me by the top speed of each log not matching my time slips.

https://datazap.me/u/awheelus/e40-v2...og=0&data=3-23

There's still some torque limiting taking place that I need Chris to take a look at.

Man if you can get a good 60' I think you are touching 10's.

I really want to play with LC more but I always had my test times just going easy into throttle and once I could tell the tires would hold floor it.

I hit the local 1/8th mile tonight to try out a new revision. Ran a couple times with a full tank of gas and a little more boost in 1st and 2nd, which netted 2.15 and 2.18 sixty footers vs the range of 2.23-2.29 from my last runs in the previous post.

On the last run I decided to get a little greedy and adjusted boost to 13psi in 1st and 18psi in 2nd, this got the sixty footer down to 1.99.

Anyway, the 1/8mile time went from a best of 7.85 @ 102 to a 7.53 @ 100. That's 3 tenths off the 1/8 mile ET which at a min should net the same off the 1/4 mile ET.

Chopping away at low 11's.

Thanks. I'm running the Dynamic Autowerx 775rs – stage 2+ turbos. Once I have the port injection sorted it'll be turned up. I just installed it and it's not working.

Any idea what is not working? Is it not spraying or not spraying enough?

Maybe the AIC controller is not wired right?

Very nice! I really miss a torque converter on launches.

I'm starting to think I'm the problem. I had to scrap my flexfuel as it wasn't working even after Chris from Motiv reviewed the wiring. Pissed away $500 total on that.

Now I've got the port injection not working so I"m really starting to wonder what I did to get this kind of bad karma. Anyway, I bought another AIC1 which arrived today, so hopefully that's it. I'll get it wired up this weekend and find out.

FWIW, really not a fan of no test file for the PI to test things at idle. Will likely create my own test file before flogging the car to figure it out.

Yeah I know what you mean about testing it. But you should be able to tell you have a live connection to the AIC.

I have been considering just running an LED indicator or some sort of read out to tell when/if it is spraying.

Looks like the rpm tap into the black wire (#21 I believe) was bad, causing an intermittent signal. I trimmed the insulation for better contact and it's working great now.

Finally got back to the track today after a bunch of DIY maintenance (leaky oil cooler, bad water pump, replace full suspension, etc.).

Anyway, still not using launch control so 60' times were atrocious, but that's fine. I now have a set of spare axles so will be using XHP LC @ around 2,500 rpm's on my next outing.

From an idle I was able to get a 11.5 @ 132 and a 11.4 @ 133. Another car broke an oil pan and doused the entire track and after a 90 minute cleanup rain hit the track (Beech Bend) and ended the day early before I could try LC.

If the axles and differential hold up it should be in the 10's with LC and decent sub 1.9 sixty footers.

Here are the datalogs: https://datazap.me/u/awheelus/10-23-...21-22-23-24-30

Castrol Edge 0W40 is better choice for N54/55.
N54 is, as you know, prone to CBU. CBU is basically sulfated ash turned into carbon. M1 0W40 has ridiculous amount of ash. I think byproduct is 1.32%. Castrol is around 1.15%. It is huge difference!
The lower SAPS amount the less CBU. Best would be going XW40 LL04 oil such as Motul X-Clean 5W40 Gen2, but not worth the price difference.
Now, you are doing drag racing not track. You can try Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5W30 from Wal Mart. It is exceptional oil. SAPS level is around 0.8%. HTHS should be around M1 0W40 so it won't influence protection of bearings etc. Just change it at 5k not more.

Wow, thanks for the informative response. IF you've put that much thought and research into it I'll give it a shot. Thanks and I'll be running Castrol Edge 0w40 on my next oil change.

The reason why I said 5W30 is resistance. You want HTHS (high temperature-high sear, basically resistance of oil to temporary or permanent loss of viscosity) minimum 3.5. Good XW40 oils are 3.7-4cp. Good XW30 oils are 3.5-3.6. Lower HTHS less resistance! That in drag racing might shed some time. Not a lot, but it will.
Really good oil, probably undisputed darling of European enthusiasts is Castrol Edge 0W30. HTHS around 3.6, very low KV100 bcs. very sophisticated base stocks. It is basically thinner and older brother of Edge 0W40 but with less polymers (good thing!). Problem? Price. Sometimes you can find it on sale at Auto Zone or AAP for $33 for 5qt. Otherwise $50's for 6qt on Amazon.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I plan on replacing the OPG in a couple weeks, so at that time I'm going to send an oil sample off to Blackstone as well as give the low friction oil a shot. I'd love a little extra bump in power from the reduced friction, especially since it doesn't come at the expense of effectivity. I'll try to grab some up soon at hopefully $33 vs the $62 I just saw on Amazon. Thanks again
