Well first, find an airport closest to your house (obviously not an international airport like LAX or SFO, but a small local one). There will most likely be one or two FBO's (Fixed Based Operators) on the field. Go into one and ask about pilot training. Most FBO's offer training or can put you in the right direction. Shop around! It's not cheap so find a place that offers a mix between well maintained aircraft, quality instructors, and price. I'm not familiar with the market in CA but I would count on spending at least $7000-8000 on getting your Private Pilots License (this is a conservative estimate, could be more, could be less). If you're really just interested in flying for fun on the weekends and doing as cheaply as possible there is another option called a Sport Pilot rating. It's easier and cheaper to get but you'll be more limited in what you able to do compared to the Private Pilots license. These are things you should ask an instructor about (not the guy at the front desk o the FBO) and if the instructor doesn't know, find another one.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
RTO

Thanks man. I'm active duty. Being from Charlotte I'm quite familiar with Charleston and will definitely enjoy living close to home. Anything beats Mississippi...

No problem.

You tell me what you're interested in, and we'll work it out.
Most popular stuff of course is all the new touch screen Garmin.
If you have room, I'd go with a G500/600 PFD/MFD, and a par of 650s or 750/650 to run it. If you have panel space of course.

I see you're in Germany. Is the aircraft in Germany? I'm in the process of getting my shop an EASA 145 ticket. Takes another 6-12 months though...

PM me if you're interested.

There is plenty of money to be made. You just have to have the right credentials and enough experience. Most pilots don't fly solely for the paycheck.

Multi-Engine, Comm, CFI.
Flew things as big as B-52G/H's to C-150's.
Never had desire to fly for the airlines when all my buddies were heading to the right seat. Flew some corporate but with an engineering degree and a more consistent place to live rather than getting bounced around the world never regretted it.

Best fun corporate plane that was small and fast was a Pressurized Baron BP-58 so much fun to fly...

When'd you fly the B-52G? My dad flew that model in Vietnam.

His infantry moto might run out mid-TBS, lol. But tell him goodluck with that.

I'd do AE, but my school doesn't offer that.

Former commercial here (RJ stuff x4000 hr) life is better now that I got out and found a new career. I get to see my wife and kid now. And I was able to pay cash for my 335! Something the regionals would have never let me do.

I still fly for fun though.
