Dynavin N7-E9x - Any Users?

Hi all,

I just joined the club with an 07 330d in immaculate condition! Only trouble is it doesn't have integrated Bluetooth for telephones. I'm looking at a Dynavin N7 unit to replace the stereo head unit and give me what I need, plus sat nav, media steaming, etc...

Are there any users out there? What is the sat nav functionality like compared to, say, Google maps? Is the interface intuitive? It could be that my Googlefu is poor, but I can't seem to find any reviews for the system? In particular, I'd like to know whether the sat nav works without being tethered to a phone for internet?

Thanks!

Subscribed. I'd like to know as well. Interested in getting one of these but I'd like to hear some positive feedback on them before I spend the money. I've read quite a bit about them, but all I seem to find are mostly negative reviews.

I'm probably going to be buying one of the Xtrons android units and will do a write-up once I've made a decision and installed. I'm really put off the Dynavin units by the fact that no distributor of them seems willing to provide any information about them (I've approached 3 now), there are no independent reviews anywhere, there doesn't appear to be any review videos on YouTube, hardly any commentary about the daily use experience on forums such as these. It really isn't very confidence inspiring.

I was going to by a dynavin and even checked out the xtron although they have every feature I was not completely happy with sound quality. As that was my main reason for buying one. At the end I went for a pioneer which had excellent sound quality. But saying that I know a lot of people have these and will say it's decent for the price.

Which Pioneer unit did you go with?

there is a massive thread on them!

bit deceiving as this says N6 on it but later in the thread moves onto the N7 version.

Just installed one in my mates E92, good bit of kit and integrates well. i have CIC and prefer it but good option for non idrive guys.

Kind of related, I have the N6 and it still has bugs that were never ironed out in the firmware. The unit is nice but the software team need to sort the old units out 100% before moving onto a new models as it doesn’t bode well for buyers on the next gen to have all the bugs on that sorted out either.

I think you are looking in the wrong places. This forum has a link for the N6 that is 200+ pages long

Thank you for the replies all. I had not appreciated that the N6 thread evolved into an N7 discussion, and apologise for missing that. Although, I remain concerned that Dynavin appears to have simply moved onto the next product (N7) when there appears to be a number of known bugs their firmware that remain unresolved in the N6. I suppose no system is perfect, but it does not fill me with confidence that any bugs/issues which appear in the N7 in the long term will be sorted before they release another new product (as people have observed, the product has only been shipping for a few weeks, and it will take some time before people become aware of any issues).

I have actually bought the Xtrons unit now and will be installing it soonish. I'll do a full write-up of it once I have. I am not particularly worried about sound quality, because I won't be using the unit as a sole amplifier for my audio system. When I install the unit I'll be upgrading the internal audio with aftermarket component speakers, and installing an amp and crossovers. So the functionality of the unit itself is all that really matters to me. Feature set, responsiveness, etc...

I'm looking at the N7 myself as an alternative to the idrive. Idrive CIC is coming to around £1600 parts and fitting. I have had a double din in the car previously but it just never looked stock which caught up with me in the end and reverted back to a Professional headunit.

I gave the N7 some thought but then I think I'd compromise sound quality so have opted for the pioneer DEH 80prs. Haven't heard anything negative about the N7 though.

What I'm curious about is the difference in quality between the BMW CIC and Dynavin N7 or one of the other aftermarket iDrive compatible multimedia nav systems. I'm particularly interested in the sound quality and smoothness of controls.

I think the Dynavin N7's primary purpose is to try and retain as much of the factory look as possible as it is with the likes of the Zenec or the Eonon etc. The Dynavin is probably the better bunch and has a high price tag to go for it. Although in all fairness if it is audio quality you are looking for, I would either stick with the factory radio and get yourself a DSP if you are going down that route. Or get something like the Pioneer 80prs, the p99rs or the Sony RSX GS9. Which are first and foremost and Audiphile grade units.

Same for N7. They released N7 Pro and we N7 users are still with lots of bugs that will probably stay forever.

For my euro spec E91 I can remember:
  • the oil temp shows always 206°C, even with engine off;
  • the fuel average unit shows L/100km but the value is correct for Km/l;
  • if you're copying a file on the internal HD and you put in reverse, triggering the camera and/or the PDCs the copy halts;
  • if you put in reverse immediately after turning the engine on, sometimes the screen remains stuck in the camera view and never changes (you have to reset the device);
  • sometimes the camera doesn't initialize and only the PDCs work.

These four are not proper bugs, more like missing features:
  • lack of Italian translation;
  • the RADIO folder for the radio stations icons is ignored when put in the internal hard drive (it works when it's in the microSD, of course);
  • cannot play videos with big size (i.e. 4GB or more);
  • doesn't recognize FLAC audio.

There are probably a few more. When I asked Dynavin about a few of those I got no answers.
