Well that was fun, change your motor mounts if low
2007 e91 135k miles
330 intake, AA headers, AA tune The PPI I got on the car a couple years ago said one motor mount was sitting a little low. My dumbass forgot about it til just recently, though I never have heard of a motor mount imploding. Sure enough, driving relatively easy compared to my usual, I downshifted to second while entering a roundabout. Immediately upon full clutch engagement I get a yellow battery light, yellow engine light, and the car seemed to go into limp mode/worse. I immediately pulled over and cut the engine. It turns out my front passenger side motor mount just disintegrated. If I'm remembering what my mechanic told me correctly, the engine torqued down on my sub-frame, and killed my water pump and the wiring to the pump and blew a few fuses. I'm trying to get pictures of the old and new motor mount side by side. The difference in height is easily an inch. Looking squarely at the old mount, the entire black rubber piece from which the screw comes out is flush with the top of the metal, as opposed to sitting an inch higher like the new mount. All in all $1400 later I have new motor mounts, water pump, and thermostat. So I got that going for me, which is nice. I'm aware that BMW's are best driven hard and all fixes preventative as opposed to after something breaks. Lesson learned. |

Curious to why not just get the Oil Pan Gasket done as well since the tech was all up under there already?

I feel BMW's run better longer when driven spiritedly, engine specifically. That being said it also requires diligent maintenance. I'm not talking power shifting, red lining, long drives without a cool down. I simply mean spirited driving, pulling through 5-6k+ rpm's now and again. You know, a good old fashioned 'Italian tuneup' lol. Maybe I'm just an asshole who likes to drive fast.
As far as the oil pan gasket, that is next to be addressed. I didn't get it done because he wasn't exactly "right there already", and I already had a $1460 bill three days after Christmas. Oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, and vanos/vanos solenoid are coming within a month or so. |

Doing mine this weekend actually. When I did my turbos a while back I could tell they were definitely on their way out, I've been worried since but finally going to get it done.
