So I heard about the blower motor recall. I need to leave my car in the garage for a few days and I am scared to balls that it will catch on fire and burn both my car and house. I am pretty sure disconnecting the positive terminal from the battery will prevent it from receiving a current so therefore no chance of fire??? Just want to make sure. Sounds like a stupid question, but its better to be safe than sorry. Thanks

I got the recall but Ive been driving my shit anyways. Im not really scared of my car burning down but I guess it is still possible though "knock on wood." Insurance should cover my lost if it does happen since my car isnt worth much anymore.

You have a 2010... Just because they release a recall in 2018 it doesn't change the design and engineering that has been in the car for the last 8 years. Have you been afraid to park it in the garage for the last 8 years? Stop worrying and schedule your recall...

There is no danger of your car catching fire while it is parked. The heating ventilation/air conditioning system (commonly referred to as HVAC) is not under power and not operating when the car is parked. The recall has to do with the blower motor electrical connector getting overheated while the system is operating. If you've not received the recall letter, you should find a copy and read it.

Following anyone's recommendation of disconnecting the battery or pulling fuses while the car is parked will probably cause you more problems. By the fact you have some fear of the car catching fire indicates you have little understanding of automobiles, so screwing around with the battery or fuse panel without proper supervision is not in your best interest. I'm not trying to flame you; it's just that your fear is completely irrational and only comes from a lack of knowledge of how automobiles work.

There have been reports of fires when the car is off

Not sure if it is because of blower recall or PCV?

Someone told me the car heats the PCV when the car
Is off to prevent freezing. Is that true?

Op if you are worried about blower wiring inspect it
By removing two screws from lower panel. I don't see how blower
Can catch fire when car is off like other person has said.
My wiring was fine

I have the recall...this post actually reminded me I need to go ahead and schedule to get it fixed. I live in Florida and the previous owner of my car also lived in Florida, if it were that likely to catch fire then I'm surprised it hasn't because of all of the excess heat here.

When my fan went out I changed my blower motor and final resistor. The final resistor melted into the blower motor connection fused it together and shorted out. I smelled a smokey smell on one occasion prior to failure but I was passing a construction site and thought they must have been welding or something and gave it no further thought. The second time I smelt it the fan went out and that is when I pulled the blower motor. I had to cut the wiring and splice a new set in as the resistor due to being melted into the connection could not be uncoupled from the motor. What a Fn pain the the ass. I do not know how to post picks but if anyone want to see PM me a cell # and I will text you a couple of picks, Scary stuff.

I have just checked that the blower motor is live even when the car is off, so there is the possibility that a problem occurs when the car is parked.
I assume BMW did this to enable the timed residual heat/cooling to work.
Also checked the suspect connector/ wiring on my car and everything seems good, so I'm not worried at all

I bought my E92 2010 335 new. Not concerned about anything. Got the recall letter too and still driving it just as I have when I was waiting for this stupid air bag recall.

Is this the issue that that Blower Motor Recall is about? I had this issue occur, and put on a new connector. The new connector looks exactly like the old one, so if it's an issue with improper gauge wire on the connector, I expect it could occur again.

That is the issue why the recall is being done now..But if you look closely its the ground wire issue..But the when the recall is done. U get a new design connector along with thicker gage power wire along with a dedicated ground instead of a splice point along with a new final stage

I was having my airbag replaced under the last recall and asked the dealer to inspect the wiring for the new recall. Dealer said they were showing signs of degrading. I just picked up the long term rental from enterprise at my local dealer. The good thing is that the car sits at my house until its ready to fix. It's costing bmw 2 grand a month for the rental. Hopefully they have the repair quickly so I'm not stuck driving the rental x3 for too long.

It's not that the gage isn't correct, it's the type of solder which was used that corroded after all these years. The corroded solder causes a short, which in turn is what caused fires in some cars.

The EU environmental regulations banned the use of lead in solder (which was ~36% lead/64% tin). BMW used solder that was 100% tin, which, in the location under the dash, is subject to moisture, and in turn is more likely to corrode.

Now, BMW is correcting the problem by replacing the connector, wires, *and most importantly* the more superior (and expensive) 100% silver solder.

This is why it is going to take a while.

In my opinion.
