Rear Fogs Enabled
Oct 2010 build. 2011 328i tiag m-sport. Just enabled my rear fogs and while doing so discovered that the switch had the actuator already inside. All I had to do was cut the tabs. 10 minutes. Thanks for the DIY.

I have a 2010 E92, built end of Oct 2009. Anyone know if the actuator is already inside the switch like above post stated which worked on his Oct 2010 built car?

Didn't need the lego!!!
I just did the mod on my '08 238i last night and it already had both white plastic pieces - no lego needed! I have no clue what I'm going to do with this mod, but it's another one I can cross off the list. Thanks for all the posts that helped with this!

Any idea where I can pick up a chrome switch? I like the looks of that one better.

I just finished doing the "removing tabs" mod on my original switch. I can confirm that the 2011 355d does indeed come with the extra white switch pusher thingie (technical term), so I didn't need to construct anything out of pen caps, legos, pennies or anything else.
The job was pretty straightforward, but there were a couple of steps that caused grief for me for a while. The first was the process of simultaneously releasing the two capture tabs that hold blank switch button into the switch. I was worried about breaking one or both of the tabs, so I took it slow. I used two jewelers screwdrivers, and gently jammed them between the tab and the switch body, while using a third screwdriver to push the button out. It would have been easier if I'd three hands or at least a small-handed assistant. Once I removed the button, I used a sharp razor knife to cut the tabs off, and a miniature file to smooth the cut surface. The other part of the job that was a bit difficult was pulling off the trim for the AC vent above the switch. The right side was very easy to release... the left side was very stubborn. I was able to release it by jamming two credit cards into the very tight gap and using a trim tool between cards. The cards act to protect both trim surfaces from damage. Before attempting the job, I invested in a set of plastic trim removal tools. They definitely made the job easier and damage-free. http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E90-335...Tool/ES517779/ The same set is available (but in red) through special order at AutoZone. Same price, but no shipping costs. That's how I bought mine. Only had to wait 2 days for them to arrive in the store. Part Number: 25314 http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=900801_0_0_ Thanks to the original poster who came up with idea for modding the switch! You are a genius! Saved me $120, not having to buy a new switch. THANKS!!

These posts just saved me some $$ as well! At first, I was reviewing a few of these threads and ready to purchase a new switch until I found that my switch was already set up with them little lego looking pieces! Took me 15min in total. I "partially" removed the vent piece as I was having trouble getting the opposite side from the speedo out. However, it was just enough to sneak out the bottom switch/trim with one of my trim tools. I then popped out the little blank switch, used a razor blade for the little tabs, put it back and presto..Rear fogs. Thanks to those for sharing this easy, free and valuable mod!

Nicely done, but
The lowest price I've seen on a Euro light switch assembly is around $170. Once removed, its child's play to crack the case (six locking tabs), and mod the lower switch button to be functional, There are four tiny tabs on the back of the button that prevent it from being used. Cut those and you're good to go. A free mod that takes less than 30 minutes. Only difference is you won't get the white symbol on the button for rear fogs that are on the new switch.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but will this DIY work on the 335is coupe? I'm only asking because it doesn't have fog lights. Thanks.

Finally did MY FIRST MOD!!
Finally decided to do the “rear fog lights”, it was a process but I ended up doing it. Everything’s really like Lego’s honestly, just have to be “Gentle & Patient”. I used a Carwash Members Card, Movie Theater Points Card, a Blade/Butter knife. The button was already there what helped was you guys that posted things before. I actually liked it so much I called my friend up and did it for his 328xi 2011 sedan. It Looks Nice, I was driving with it on and honestly a lot of people wouldn’t as Tail Gate as they use to. I went to Astoria Strip right after I did it on my car and I forgot when I parked in front of someone I had them on so when I came out to look at my car and then looked at them I realized they were squinting because I had my rear fog lights. It’s definitely something you shouldn’t abuse. But like I would have to say is that Our lights look better than Audi’s rear fogs and The RANGES which are extremely bright as well. THANK YOU DIY..What I think would be sick is if you can just rock idle lights with the REAR FOGS, if anyone did it please let me know..Btw this took my like 30mins (just being honest)
Thank you Once again Regular Lights Gauge's (Rear Fog Light Symbol) Rear Fog lights Last edited by GiovanniE90; 09-19-2011 at 10:42 AM.. Reason: text format was too big |

Did the mod this weekend; 2011 328i - only tabs needed to be cut.
Of course what I'll ever do with this I have no idea. However since it was Quick, easy and cheap (the best type of mod!), how could I say no? |
