Changing steering wheel paddles on DCT

Hey all has anyone changed the old style paddles that came on the first N54 DCT cars, to the much nicer newer style with the silver edges on them.

Ive heard its pretty easy but everyone seems to be changing from normal auto's was wondering if the wiring and anything was different, also do the paddles just fit straight in, I don't want to be hacking pieces of the wheel off, etc.

These are the ones id like to fit.

Ease depends on your soldering skills. Mine suck, but I was successful. I have an '09 e91 that came with the old style paddles. I found the new style shifters on eBay. To your question on fitment, you don't have to cut anything -- follow the instructions in the PDF below to modify the paddles first, then pull the airbag and remove the trim piece. Plug and play at that point. Definitely a worthy mod in my opinion. Used this article to get the deed done:

Thanks for the reply. Is the fitment good? They look quite small, and I have small hands. Im worried I might find it hard to reach.
