Mysterious Broken Part

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and was wondering if anyone could tell me what this part is. No one, including the repair shop, seems to know what it is. It's located by the front driver's side wheel in my e93 335i. Any help would be much appreciated!

Is it a height sensor for the auto levelling headlights?

I believe that's the height sensor for the headlights. It looks like it just came unclipped from the control arm (see the square cutout in the picture).
