N51 Coolant Flush Question - Underfilling?
I follwed the DIY's on the forum and at Pelican Parts here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech...ing_System.htm
I was able to complete all steps with the exception of pulling the water pump hose to drain that part since the hose clamp on there was rather unusual and i couldn't figure out how to get it off without breaking it. Anyways, upon draining and filling, i noticed that I was only able to fill one gallon of mixed coolant (1/2 gallon coolant and 1/2 gallon distilled water) and the reservoir was full. I did the bleeding procedure twice and once it was complete, opened up the reservoir and it was still relatively full (the red floating stick was above the reservoir opening). Is this normal since i didn't drain the rest of the fluid in the pump? I read everywhere that our cars are supposed to take up to 2 gallons (1 gallon coolant + 1 gallon water). My plan is to do this drain and refill procedure after another week or two. |

I remember when I did my coolant I removed the WP hose and didn't get a lot out and made note to myself that next time i wasn't going to go through the hassle again of removing the hose from the WP. I dont't recall how much I filled but there should be fluid in the engine block still. How much coolant did you drain out? If you got out about a gallon id not worry.
Drive around for a week or so and check the level. I guess for piece of mind you could redo the procedure

I drained about a gallon or so too out. I had my car jacked up from the front only so it wasn't level...hopefully that doesn't affect it too much. The instructions in the pelican parts website said to jack from the front only

Yup. The other gallon was left in the block and piping... You should be fine though.
