when did you replace your starter?
My 07 328 is approaching 78,000 miles. What was the mileage on your car when your starter was replaced? I'm thinking about replacing my starter so I don't miss an important meeting because my car needs to be towed.

That is something that you wait until failure for.

I've owned 5 BMW's with mileages ranging from about 45,000 to 97,000 miles and none required a starter.
But since you are worried about starting, I'd be more inclined to replace the OEM battery at your car's time & mileage. Tom |

Mine just failed on me a few days ago @ 120k miles. No symptoms at all so that was odd, went to an indy shop and they're charging me $680 vs dealership which would be $1000 plus towing would be $1350.

My 06 330i died at 120K. $1250 at indy shop. Needed to hit the button 2 times in the morning, then 3 times later, then later I got nothing. So I had some signs.

I had a couple of bad starts where it took 2 tries before starting with slow crank. Tested battery and it was good.
Had a car starter fault with my BT scan tool. The mechanic will run a few test to see if Starter replacement is warranted. |

My OEM battery was replaced about 3 years ago when I was experiencing slow starts. I now occasionally get a slow start, never having to push the button more than once, but a slower start. It happens whether the engine is cold or hot. My mechanic told me the starter usually will go bad without any warning. There's also no set mileage when it's expected to go out. I'm thinking about replacing the starter as a preventative measure to avoid being stranded somewhere. Based on the responses, it's not a cheap fix.

Just got my car back from Darren at Alphawerx Auto. He replaced my starter at 136,000 km with a rebuilt Bosch. I had been experiencing bad slow starts with starter engine faults along with various heating flap and heating sensor faults. After the replacement of my starter, starts are smooth and amazing and surprisingly my heating faults went away as well. Prices and service were awesome as usual with Darren. Very patient with my concerns and questions. I would highly recommend his work to anyone.
