CIC Retrofit? Worth it or not (New BMW owner)

I shall formally introduce myself since I recently purchase my first BMW 08 335i coupe with sport package, navigation, comfort access. I've driven a Sentra SER SPEC V in college, G37 sedan post graduation, C6 Corvette after my G37 was blown away by IS350 and 335i, and now BMW...
I always wanted a European car, but in the past, my perception of maintenance is too expensive. Well, I think i'm learning it the hard way. You be the judge.

I got the 335i less than 3 weeks, couple weeks ago, the SOS call system malfunction, shut down all the audio system, and the iDrive is now frozen (although the navigation screen on the right still display). Long story short, took it to the shop and they diagnosed that it was the CCC. *I asked them if it was the TCU since that's the problem most owners were having problem with the same issue* But my SA insists that it is just the CCC. They quoted me for 1600 since the CCC itself is $895, and they have to ship it from Jacksonville to Tampa, plus 4 hours of labor. I talked them into a cheaper pricing, and they agree to do it for 1300 on Thursday when the parts get in.

I've been reading up on the CIC retrofit... is this a solution to the SOS malfunction problem? It seems to be a pretty complicated process, and around 2500-3000 to do it. Does anyone in Tampa area know how to do this?

If you were in my shoe paying 1300 dollars, would you rather upgrade to CIC?

Thanks for your input!

I would take my car to an independent shop. First, IMHO, dealers sometimes tell you that you need to replace something big when in reality is something fixable by replacing a minor sensor. Second, it will be cheaper to do whatever you need to do at an independent shop.

If I were you, I would upgrade. But it is up to you - do you feel like you really want the capabilities offered by the CIC? Are the capabilities worth the price difference? What else could you replace on your car if you were to spend the difference on other upgrade?

Something to think about.

If you're thinking about spending $1300 to fix your current CCC system, put it back in your wallet and save it for a CIC kit. The kit alone from Bimmer Retrofit is around $1500, I think. I'll be doing a CIC retrofit when I finish with my FBO project. It's definitely one of those worthwhile upgrades on a CCC-equipped car. Adds a little uniqueness to the car, too.

I would get a few more people to take a look... you never know maybe someone was being lazy and said you need to replace it all when really it might be a simple fix... but if not... imo CIC is a better way to go.

I did the CIC retrofit - I highly recommend it if you can afford it. I hated how slow and unintuitive the CCC was. It's a huge difference in speed, graphics, and usability. No regrets here.

Don't know if that will solve your SOS issue though.

Honestly, I would love to do it, but it will cost more than 3k with the install. With that money I felt like I should have gotten an LCI E92. I really just want my audio to work again.
How much did the CIC retrofit conversion cost you guys? And anyone in Florida can help with this?

Anyone know if CIC retrofit would fix the SOS malfunction problem?

I'm not much of a electronic geek, I would need someone professional to do this. Anyone got connection to help?
