Help - iDrive not working!

Hi Guys

Major worry with my 1 series iDrive not working - the whole thing appears to have died.

The screen flips up fine but there is no display, no music, no dvd, no parking sensors...nothing.

The iDrive dish spins freely and I have no idea what to do???? I tried to reboot i.e. cd eject, dvd eject and mute, but nothing happens....

Any help would be much appreciated.....

Cheers

Isnt that a CCC failure or CIC failure?

Both being something like £2000 repair bills or something like that?

And if that doesn't work, try disconnecting overnight.

If it still doesn't work break open your 'piggybank'.

same is what i had, if i had the radio i would leave it lol,you got to go to the bmw garage and let them update it, if that dosnt work you need a new unit, my car was out of warrenty but asked for goodwill and got it, try this route before letting a indi fiddle with it

I'm afraid you may have to take it to the dealers and await their diagnosis. However, i wouldn't be surprised if they recommended replacing a part of the iDrive system at great great expense to yourself.

Once you've got your diagnosis and a quote from BMW, it may be worth talking to Patrys on here to see if he can get hold of an OEM, fully coded-to-your-car part that you require (it could be the screen that's dead or the iDrive computer, or both).

EDIT: How far out of warranty are you, have you always had the car serviced at BMW, have you owned the car long and did you buy it used or brand new? All of these will determine on how kind BMW will be if they make a goodwill gesture - definitely ask for one no matter what though.

Update...

Today, BMW diagnosed the fault as being the CCC, which they have now reset and seems to be working fine, but obviously they said that if it plays up again i will need to resolve.

The guy recomended that a repair would be cheaper than a replacement, apparently the one's you buy from BMW are re-conditioned units as opposed to brand new and cost a fair bit of bunce....

Anyone know of any repairers???

Cheers

I have a working section sat here if you need the main part.
It is coded for a car with standard audio.

But you will probably be fine.

How did they reset it? Was it the old I-drive version on Ctrl-Alt-Del?

Did they charge you much?

My best guess is that your CCC (Car Communication Computer) is faulty. The CCC controls the audio and navigation systems. This is a not unusual issue on these cars. It could be a hardware issue or just a software issue. You will need the car diagnosed at the dealer to determine exactly what is the issue.

There are a couple of things you could try as a work around. The first is a CCC reset. To perform the CCC reset follow this procedure:

Push and hold both the CD and DVD eject buttons at the same time.
While holding the eject buttons push the volume/on/off button.
The display should go blank and then reset.
The other procedure to try is a battery reset.

Access the battery behind the right side trunk trim panel.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Disconnet the positive battery terinal.
Allow the car to sit for 20-30 minutes. This allows all of the capacitors in the modules to bleed of their power and lets the modues reset.
Reconnect the battery and see if it fixes your issue.

No ideas on how they reset mate, i just left the car with my mate at BMW for a couple of hours and let him do his thing. I think he ran the diagnostics first and then tried to run an update but it wouldent let him as it flagged a fault with the CCC. I doubt it was a manual reboot because I tried that and it didnt change the situation...

Cost wise it cost me a couple of drinks ....

Ccc stopped working!!

I was driving one night when all of a sudden my radio, radio lights, and I drive screen shut off, I checked the fuse for the I drive, reset battery, hard reset on I drive and nothing, I went to the junk yard and found a ccc module exactly like the one I have now. I installed and it didn't fix it my issue, screen is still black and no music. Do I need to code anything to get i drive or music to turn on? The car I pulled the ccc module off was dead with no battery so I can't verify if it worked but it was worth a shot.

Pull the drive on the original unit and see if it works that way.

If not run a code check.

Can you elaborate on that a little? I'm kinda new to messing with ccc module, pull the hard drive off the ccc module? Where and what is it? Thanks

Do you have a CIC or CCC?

The CIC has the internal hard drive.

When the drive goes the unit can either shut off or fail to start properly.
