I’ve just had new tyres fitted to my 18” style 124’s. The fitted found a small crack on one of the rears. Very annoying. I once had mv4’s with cracks so got them welded. They cracked again on the welds so I won’t be wasting money getting it welded again.

If they were welded properly that would be the strongest part of the wheel and not crack again.

But the best thing you can do is ditch runflat tyres and smaller wheels are less likely to crack as there's more sidewall on the tyre.

19's are worst, 18's still crack (I've had an MV3 and a 216 both crack), 17's don't seem to be affected even with runflats, or it's not widely reported.

But in the 2 E90's I've had, once the runflats were removed and they were on normal tyres, I've not cracked a wheel, that's running OEM 18's.
Thanks for the reply. I think I have MV3’s. They are 18 inch, staggered. Front wheels are 8jx18 E H2, tyres are 225/40/18. Rears are 8.5jx18 and tyres are 255/35/18. I did see a code on one of them saying “BM30”.

I have only just got this car so was doing a good check over. They are on non run flats and I took the front drivers wheel off and it has been repaired twice already and has one “open” crack. I also took one of the rears off just to see the wheel specs and there were no open cracks in that but two previous weld repairs. The wheels are a bit scuffed and all tyres are needing replacement.

Trying to weigh up the cost and longevity of repairing the wheel cracks, getting 4 new tyres and potentially having them refurbed. But it wouldn’t fill me with confidence knowing they have been repaired multiple times and are still cracking. So I think a second hand set of 17” or 18” wheels with decent tyres, maybe MV2 or MV3 (but kind of put off now) or something different

The 6 cylinder M Sport cars got MV3's with RFT's from the factory, so they'll have been cracked & repaired, then a previous owner fitted normal tyres, but sounds like that wheel is fit for the bin.

With multiple previous repairs and a crack, I would not want that on my car.

I've got a spare set of MV3's without tyres from my previous 330d, I replaced them with 216's and swapped tyres, then just put them in the shed. They're all free from cracks or repairs, but would need a refurb to be mint, I'd sell those.

MV2's are the wrong offset and need spacers to get them to sit where an MV3 sits, as standard they sit further back in the arches, so look crap.
