A somewhat newbie question re ED:

So you go to your dealer and order the car - at which point they work with you to set a delivery date in Munich. You go pick it up, enjoy the Euro-trip, and then it takes 6-10 weeks to get the car to the U.S.

What causes that significant amount of time from when you order the car to when you pick it up in Munich? It seems like people have 2 to 3 months to kill there - whereas if you were to order the car and have it sent to the U.S. directly, people seem to get their cars in just 2 months.

Just trying to understand the timing aspect here as I think about ED (and the big $$$ it could save!).

Thanks.

ED is a very popular delivery option just like PCD. There are a limited # of deliveries than can be scheduled for each day and depending when you want to take delivery, you may have to plan a little further ahead than other times.

Since I'm considering ED myself, has anyone that's done ED, participated in any BMW Driving Adventures?

+1.

Also US delivered cars may already be on the water if your dealer has inventory arriving and it's not sold that matches your specs.

ED cars are really custom-made for you because, it has to be transferred from the ED allocation into the dealer's inventory. They don't build inventory for the EDs. Although if you're really in a rush and don't care about your options then sometimes you can get lucky and your CA may be able to find an ED pool car that someone cancelled.

I'm contemplating Euro Delivery because I am going to be in London at the end of June.

Anyone know how much of a hassle it is getting over there from England? Is it the kind of thing I could do in one day back/forth?

Basically I get in to London on a Thursday afternoon, and I'm meeting a friend on the Sunday. So before then I could do it, I was wondering if I could do there and back on the Saturday.

I don't think you can do ED on a weekend, only weekdays. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

In terms of actual travel, should be easy - could just hope a quick flight on one of the discount airlines (EasyJet types) to Munich from one of the London airports. Just leave a buffer in, in terms of catching flights.

Should be easy - get a train up to Stansted and take RyanAir or EasyJet, or if you're feeling flush you can get something from Gatwick, Heathrow or possibly London City.

All the airports are accessible by train and flights can vary from 0.02p upwards (plus taxes of course).

I've done London-Paris in a day for work before both by plane and train.

It is definitely open on Saturdays, get your pre reservation in early if that's the only day you can p/u.You can request 3 Saturdays as your p/u date.Drop off made done on Saturdays as well, but only in Munich,Try to use a CA who has done at least a few ED's,it's much easier when they know the process. You can also take redelivery at the Performance Center in Spartanburg,SC for no additional charge, then you could order from anyone in the country.

Stop thinking about it, because if you want to do it, you might have already missed the window of opportunity for a June ED. They book up well in advance.

AFAIK, you can only do ED on vehicles that are currently offered for sale in the USA.

Just got back from ED trip to Europe. While the entire experience was enjoyable I wanted to share that Sigrid Aniol picked us up from the Munich Airport and deposited us to BMW Welt for 50 euros. Additionally she agreed to meet us at Harms at the end of the trip and waited an extra 45 minutes without charging additional while we arranged for turning the car over. When she dropped us off at the airport we inadvertently left some important papers in her car. She then went more than the extra mile and both emailed us and had us paged at the airport before the plane left so she could come back and hand us the documents. Her honesty and service were exemplary. She can be reached via email at Taxi-Aniol@t-online.de or by cell phone 49 171-45 75 416.

It would be very interesting for me to hear something about that and at least, if it would be possible in general. Because the difference between the US and the German list price is unbelievable, nearly 50%!

Thanks for all your answers in this awesome thread and forum.

Best regards,
Dirk

I don't think that's possible because you have to be a US citizen to do Euro delivery. I also think you have to sign some papers when you pick up the car in Munich that you are going to export the car. Sorry, no deal.
Anyone has more solid info on this?

I don't recall signing such document. I've signed a lot of things, so I could have missed it...

Yes you are right, it's clearly indicated that the car has to go back to the US as planned by BMW.
Penalties are not specified though, so I guess that for a single car they would let you get away for not too much money, but if they feel that you are making a business out of it, they would make sure that the penalty is big enough to protect their European markets...

I've had a few people sell their car immediately after returning from Europe and before their car has even returned.Remember, you know the exact miles and should have a fairly accurate idea of when your car is arriving back at the dealer. They're not difficult to sell since they're almost new,as long as you bought it right. It works even easier if you live in a state with no sales tax.The more expensive the car,the bigger the spread and if you've been a member of the BMWCCA for 12 months prior to the purchase, you're also eligible for the rebate, anywhere from 500 -1500 depending on the model.

So order the new '09 7 series after your CCA membership is in force for 12 months, use the vehicle in Europe and sell it when it comes back, there won't be a dealer in the country discounting this car.If you can wait until fall of '09,you can get the 2010
750 XI,the fall foliage is outstanding and when the car comes back in early December,it will only have been out for 2 months.your savings could be as much as 7K or more...think about that for a while !

Hi, Great infomation. Sorry if the info is already posted within this thread. I can't read through all the pages right now.

Where can I find updated price information for the E92 ED option. I used the price calculation on the first page of this thread and I think the prices are for the E90.

Thanks very much.
