let me know what your muffler guy says,

regards to the cop i highly doupt one is goign to pull over one of us. First of all, I am about to install race springs and you probably wont even be able to see up under the car from the ground...lol unless he wants to put it on a lift, i dont think i'll have a problem.

im curious about the perfomance increse of 2nd cat as well!

you will not get a warning light if you take off the secondary cats, only the primary. So you don't have to be worried

Just talked to my muffler shop and they told me they could under the table. $100 cash no receipt.

^__^ sounds good... even though its against FEDERAL regulations for a shop to do that. Everyone in my area is pretty legit so they don't want to risk anything... i'm gonna post a thread in my local area and see if anyone wants to do it for me too... i'm gettin the rez and muffler off tomorrow.. dual 3" Black Chrome mufflers

The muffler guy did tell me that the Cats are the most restrictive part of the exhaust (sound quality and perf. quality). Depending on how far apart the primary and secondary cats are away from each other affects the overall output of sound out of the rear
the farther apart they are, the louder they can be while still functioning at full capacity...the sound has an opportunity to 'echo' in the pipeline before being filtered again.
cars that have them right behind each other aren't affected much by upgrading the mufflers, tips, or horn... it's like the sound is filtered too much too quickly to be able to 'echo' or build up sound inside the pipe.

Also... depending on where you increase the size of your pipe underneath the carriage affects where your torque range is on the RPM band: example... going from 2.5" pipe to 3" near the rear bumper area will give you more lower rpm range. going from 2.5" to 3" pipe near the front seating area will give torque to the higher rpm range. Overall, the less restrictive (while having enough back pressure of course) you are, the better horsepower gains (typically about 3 - 7whp subject to setup WITH catalytic converters)... expect more without cats
I brought up a question about people losing torque by having quad exhaust... he says it's not that it's 'lost' its just either moved so far at the beginning of the rpm band, it's not seen on a dyno. the torque is deemed 'useless' because the rpm range is so low it's in IDLE... which is useless. He suggests that if you go with quad exhaust AND you want to move usable torque, try increasing pipe size at the rear axle and going quad at or near the bumper.

This is some good information, thanks for posting it!! I was surprised my muffler shop agreed to it so quickly.

I'm not sure what size piping they put for my muffler delete, but I'd like to have some more low end torque...would be nice.

I think next week I'll be taking my car to get the 2ndaries deleted and my new tips put on! I'll post some vids, you should post one too once you get yours done!

Hopefully i don't have any problems with cops...YIKES!
Overall though, i think 100 is a pretty good price, would you happen to know how long estimated the 2ndary cats are? I'd like to keep them incase i need to put them back on.

My setup (tomorrow) is 2.5" to 3" at the rear seats (for mid-torque/highway driving) and then again 3.5" into a y-pipe with dual black chrome 3" tips. ^__^ i can't wait! I pick it up at lunch tomorrow! (i'm giggling like a little school girl at heart lol)

I forgot to mention the "bottle neck resonators" he said the reason they're effective at distorting sounds (which the design is patented by Magnaflow) is because it restricts it at the beginning (entering the rez), the sound accumulates in the bubble, then restricts it again: COMPRESSING that sound at the bottle neck and the sound builds up again at the second 'stage' bubble... giving a very distinct sound coming out of your azz. ^__^

I considered this mod, but 1. it costs $120 for it, 2. it's made for muscle cars (some new camaro SS have this as a factory option) 3. i'd have to postpone my setup for another week for it to arrive... i passed - mainly because i'm too anxious to get my baby purring.

That will be a sick setup man! I am really anxious to get my secondaries removed so i know what you mean!

I might ask if they can put 2.5' in the front in replace of the secondaries and i guess just keep the rear muffler delete as it is now. I wish i knew if it was 2.5 or 3 inches, guess ill have to ask!

I'm hoping my car doesn't sound like a muscle car haha, i love the bmw tone. I wonder if the gain though from the 2.5 or 3' is a "big" difference like if you can feel it or not... If it's a big difference then I'm probably goign to make sure i tell them what i want haha!

How much hp gain total did the guy say, (if you asked?). I saw you said 3-7whp with the cats....so im wondering what it would be without the secondaries. Hmm this is a pretty interesting thread, to me atleast!

That would be sweet if it was 10-15 to the wheels!

I wonder if the muffler delete gives you any hp too

When people get a muffler delete done you get a tiny bit of power just from the weight loss bc that muffler is so damn heavy lol. But nothing really too noticeable

Hahaha, I'm getting my suspension installed tomorrow so I had to take sub box and all out of trunk... My car feels lighter from that, might keep it that way lol

It's this piece of shit iPhone app. I just notices my last quote didn't go thru. Just wanted to say how mean your new setup is. Did you notice any gains with the different diameter piping? And how much everything with the new pipe?

actually it feels a little bit laggy at first but my higher rpm's really pull hard AND LOUD... i think a good throttle remap will fix the lag though (gettin a BMS PBX this weekend, hopefully a cat delete that same day?) we'll see...

Wow mine messed up too haha. I was asking same thing, was wondering if you felt a difference since your piping.

Sounds and looks sick!
