e90 tow bar installed - photos

Took the plunge and ordered a tow bar kit and dedicated electrics from PFJones.co.uk for $700 all up. Installed myself at no cost - very happy with the final result.

The installation is almost completely stealth, the tow bar gets detached when not in use and electrical connector is hidden by the bumper.

The install itself took only 3-4 of hours, but I did spend a fair few hours preparing and working things out - the instructions seemed to be fairly convoluted so I took things slowly

The install was broken up into two fairly equal parts - the bumper removal and tow cross bar installation and the wiring of vehicle specific electrics

Having done it once I reckon it could probably be done in 1-2 hours if I had to do it again

I will be doing a road trip to Darwin at the start of next year (about 5000 km) so I will provide an update on how the set up performs on this fairly challenging drive.

Nice job with the install and good placement for the towbar as well. Would have looked awful if you had to cut into the bumper.

So when you want to use the towbar you have to remove the bumper?

What are your trailer's dimensions?
I've found a 3.5'x5' and a 4'x6' that I like, but not sure if the 4x6 is going to be too large for my 325i.

I went with Witter detachable tow bar, Westfalia specific to car harness

By now it has paid for itself many times over

Hey thanks a lot!

I picked up the 4'x6' trailer over the weekend and couldn't be happier! I can't even tell that there's anything behind my car.
