That's funny, today I've been thinking about making a custom front lip. I thought about aluminum and plastic. For plastic I was looking at black HDPE because it's smooth but the problem is getting a big enough sheet for a reasonable price. Didn't even think of abs but same problem.

I've been looking for 1/4 thick. In pre-cut sizes the only one that would work is 4ft x 8ft and i haven't been able to find a sheet for a reasonable price. Going to have to look locally.

Edit: looks like I can get a 1/4" x 48" x 96" sheet of HDPE for $90 or ABS for $150 locally. Abs weight in at 45lbs and HDPE at 40lbs. Once cut down to lip size should be under 10lbs.

hahaha nice! I just bought the m sport bumper, I'm planning on getting the splitter. As you can see theres another bottom lip in the centre, I would like to add a custom lip to obtain the same look. But just cant think of what material will be light so it wont add so much weight to the screws/bolts. Strong enough so it wont break into half lol. I might get it in gloss black or just wrap it in 5D carbon fiber. Im going to check out the prices today!

I heard ABS is much easy to be cut into the shape you want.

ABS seems like the way to go but it's a lot more expensive. I want to make a custom lip for my stock non-m bumper since there aren't many made and I don't really like the H style one I have anymore. That's pretty much the look I'm going for as well. I have the splitters too.

Weight and price are my biggest concerns. I'll look into other materials. I was also thinking since I will have extra material possibly making matching side skirt extensions.

Edit: Looks like I can pick up a sheet of ABS for $91 from Alro Plastics. Looks like they have locations around the US so might be worth checking out.

$91 is very reasonable! I can't decide how thick I should get.

Yea it's the best price I've found so far. With that much I can make a lip and side skirt extensions. I was thinking 1/4 but now I'm wondering if that's too thin.

I plan to make one from aluminum sheet soon.

My custom sideskirt extensions are made from 1/8" carbon fiber, but after shattering my last CF lip I want aluminum in the front.

A few pounds. Aluminum is pretty light. I'll probably use some sheet just under 1/8" thick. 1/4" think is overkill, even for ABS.

I read ur thread, you said you made it with a machine cut. Just wondering how much it cost you in total, including material and cutting?

It was cut out on a laser cutter. The carbon fiber sheet was about 1,000.00 bucks, but that made 3 sets of extensions. The laser cutter was free, my friend has access to one. In fact, I have some rear extensions that he just cut out for me waiting to be installed.

For the aluminum front lip I'm going to cut it all out by hand.

My original plan was aluminum. Will have to look into it still. I liked the idea of plastic because it's colored all the way through and scratches/scrapes won't show well. Plus aluminum is harder and more expensive to paint.

You can just wrap it

I'm also interested in this look. Does anyone have a link to a good fitment splitter like the one above?

If you have some cash to spend make it out of alumalite, if you're ballin on a budget, make it out of plywood and fiberglass. And before anyone says that plywood is a dumb idea, its very common to see cars at the track using splitters made out of that
