2011 E92 335IS Audio Upgrade

Hi,

I just picked up a 2011 black 335IS with DCT. Drawback is the car has base stereo (no HK / premium audio package).

I usually drop aftermarket audio systems in the cars I own if it makes sense (installation and money spent for desired results). I am thinking of the following upgrade:

-Audison bit one/ten DSP
-2-way component set running with passive crossovers
-Upgrade the mid bass drivers under the seat with SWS 8"
-4channel amp to power the front component set + SWS 8" subs

My question is.. will the Hybrid Audio Clarus 5-1 set fit within the doors with a custom mounting bracket/ adaptor? Reason asking is because I have a set already. I know the stock speaker is 4" and the Clarus is 5.25". If it's just a matter of slight mods without major cutting of the door panel then I will be okay with it.

I've included the link to the Clarus specs for reference:

http://hybrid-audio.com/downloads/sp...nts-Manual.pdf

Thanks!

speakers for the doors in a coupe have to be under 43cm thick I believe
see above.

Also I would look for a BMW specific harness from the following website.

I would be looking at one of the Helix amp/dsp products for an all in one solution
to the amp dsp. 82dsp ,V8 or 6 dsp these also take care of the eq problem.

Your ability to fit speakers in an e92/e93 is limited by mounting depth (too deep and you hit the window). Your max bottom-mount depth is around 41 mm (JL C5-400 fits). You can go to a taller spear, but that requires custom mounting brackets/solution that pushes the speaker into the cabin (you will probably also need to remove the stock grill.

At 64mm bottom-mount for the Clarus C5, it is going to be a near impossible fit.

One thing you should consider is that SWS have trouble playing up over 100 hz very well, and with a 4" speaker, you will have trouble bridging the gap to them. The JL C5-400 can get to 200 hz (http://medleysmusings.com/jl-audio-c5-400cm-midrange/).

Make sure to get a Technic harness. You can also get SWS mounting brackets from him. If you buy his harness, he can probably tell you for sure if you can fit the Clarus. He is an expert.

PM me if you have any specific questions about installing the amp or speakers. I'm not an expert, but I can help point you in the right direction.

Just to be sure: the lack of a premium audio system does not necessarily mean you have the base stereo

Don't know about the 335is but the 2011's could have the base or
Hi Fi . First half of the year no amp base system second half reconstituted
Hi FI which is much easier to modify.

Great speakers, but you probably can't fit them, not even top-mounted. At one time I was thinking about getting those, for my sedan, which has a good 8-9 mm more depth than the coupe, and it would have been a tight fit depth-wise, not to mention enlarging the cutout hole, dremeling the passenger side door handle, and fitting new grilles. Forget about the SWS, they are at the opposite end of the spectrum of the rest of the equipment you listed.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually emailed HAT guys and they said it will definitely not fit. I am def willing to go 5.25" speaker size instead of 4" in the front doors if someone has already built some mounting brackets/spacers I can buy and drop in with small modifications.

As for the 8"SWS goes.. good to know they don't play up to 100hz very well. If I can get decent 5.25" then that might make up for it.

I'm also def looking to buy Technic's wiring harness and have a shop do the install. I have pretty good knowledge of how car audio systems work but prefer to let a professional install because I'm clumsy and have broken countless clips in my previous cars.

I haven't done too much research on shallow mount 8"s that will fit under the seat but definitely open to higher end gear

I have IDQ 12s in my daily Lexus and love them. I've never had to look for shallow mount subs tho..

For the underseats Jehnerts xe-200's are one of the most
bang for your Buck audiophile quality speakers.

The under seats are sort of subish speakers but not a true trunk sub.
If you are not a bass head they are enough for most people.

I have the Jehnerts, and I don't think they are worth the money. If you have the hifi system, use those and add a trunk sub.

I have the sws8 and found them to be a huge upgrade over oem hifi under seats. I have them playing up to 250 hz now that they are broken in and they are pretty much exactly what I was looking for. You find a lot of people saying they don't play well above 150 though so I guess it just depends what you like.

I would look at a Rockford Fosgate 360.3 amp and couple it with bav sound package speakers.

https://www.bavsound.com

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...tails/3sixty.3

You could relocate the head unit behind a panel in the rear of your worried about getting a code etc.

Or you could get a dynavin N6. If you get any sos code, I am pretty sure it can be coded out remotely.

The RF 360.3 is not an amp, it is a DSP.

For the money, you could do a lot better than the Bavarian Sound Speakers. Plus there is a thread where they refused to honor their warranty because the person used an amp that had more than stock power.

OP is on the right track he just needs a speaker solution for the doors and underseats. If I was buying new speakers, I would try to find a way to buy the Rainbow IL-C8.3 BMW. It is a plug and play solution for the underseats and doors. https://www.amazon.com/Rainbow-IL-C8...ds=IL-C8.3+BMW
