Valid point. Hard to find an m3 to test drive

I did my part this morning by poorly sweet S65 exhaust fumes over a Tesla model S! Surprised to see them in the area!

My sister test drove 2 in shreveport before she bought hers. They aren't too difficult to find locally. We almost test drove one at Brian Harris, but she didn't want MT.

There are 5 on craigslist, right now. Some in NO, one in Lafayette, one in Houston.

Who owns the black/black e92 M3 that just went past me on old Perkins by Santa Maria on his way to P-Ville? Black wheels, license plate in protective cover.

That's Tim B.

Doc it sounds like you love your car, and the feeling of torque. On the contrary it sounds like you have zero experience with a high revving race car like engine

My car revs is 8300RPM and I can set it to 8600 if I please. It has about 385 horsepower. If I wanted to, I could've kept the factory engine and turbo charged it. It would've roughly made 550hp (reliably) and turned 7000-7200rpm. It would've also been about $3000 cheaper.
I chose the high revving, race car like motor for very specific reasons and I find it much more enjoyable to drive and listen to. It's all about preference and everyone has different preferences in what they like about a car. Go get some experience in an M3 and report back

He should go for a ride in my M3. Ultimate raw, race car experience.

So far I have only found 2 e92 m3 with both DCT and ZCP. Do I really need the ZCP? Have not yet called BH BMW. Tell Tim to come pick me up for a ride.

Yes, you definitely want ZCP. Please don't buy from Brian Harris, but you should test drive there if you have one. They are terrible human beings.

If you have no intentions of ever touching the suspension I would get ZCP. Personally, I love the wheels that came with it. Plus it's nice to switch up the suspension modes every once in a while, feels like a slightly different car! LOL

Just curious. Why does the M3 have less torque than a 335i?

Because the 335i has turbochargers. NA cars do not generally make as much tq as their FI equivalents.

The M3 engine is "relatively" low displacement compared to other production V8's. Generally to get large torque numbers in a NA V8 you need cylinder volume.

Also, high reving engines tend have lower "low end" torque than lower reving motors (due to stroke design).

To put it best, the M3 is an engine that you need to keep in a powerband where most other cars would be pegging off the rev limiter. Even when I go to pass someone on the highway I'll get to 5K rpm and floor it. By time time I get past them and ready to pull back over I look down and see I might be at 7K... And still have another 1.3K to play with... And the motor is still pulling hard, just "beggin!!!!" for more!

> 100 hp per litre from an engineering standpoint is drool worthy. The noise is better.

I went and talked with Supreme Muffler just off Clearview in Metairie last night and immediately knew they could build exactly what I wanted. I dropped the car off this morning and hopefully I'll have it back tonight. I feel antsy like a little kid waiting for Christmas. They are putting on new tips, removing the resonator, and installing a Doug's Headers exhaust cutout. They are going to put an H pipe near where the resonator was and going to do a single cutout in the center of the H. I thought it was a cool and unique idea.

On a separate note, does anyone on here own or know who owns a Lemans blue or Interlagos blue M3 that lives in New Orleans? Its got black 359M wheels I believe, exhaust work and possibly a super charger. I always see him pulling out of the apartments near me but haven't been able to catch him to check out the car up close.

Like Mkah said FI vs V8...

I loved the TT on my 335 especially the modability but I cant wait to take the M3 out and see what all the fuss is about

well it could be me if I buy the car in Naples but who has got time to fly over there, test drive, negotiate, blah, blah. The other car I like is in effing Salt Lake City. Closest car but 10K more is in Hoston at Momentum. Maybe just settle for 2013 from BH BMW.

I've done the long distance trip to purchase twice. Was simple and easy both times. Full maintenance records and a car just as advertised. No negotiation, just gave the men their fair asking price. Drove back in two days. Done.

I'll go with you, if you'd like.
