Unless the RB price is for 2 turbos?
I would assume that's for 2?
Rob has posted on another forum the failure stats back in May 2018, take it for what it is though there not as bad as you think:

TD03's-
RB OEMs: 10T cast compressor. Basically OEM turbos that will make OEM power (ie. sub 425whp). Production began 10/2016. Over 110 sets sold including the DIY CHRA kits. 0% failure rate since intro.
RB OEM Billets: 10T billet compressor. Basically OEM turbos with a billet compressor to make a tiny bit more power, hardly worth mentioning but not much cost increase either so worth it to some. Production began 10/2016. Approximately 20 sets sold including the DIY CHRA kits. 0% failure rate since intro.
RB Ones: 14T billet compressor. Basically the next real power improvement that is significant enough to mention. Carries power/boost to redline. Stage 1+ setup. Recommend for 425-475whp. Have seen them make 518whp to date at 22psi. Production began 2/2017. Approximately 45 sets sold since intro and one unit returned to customer/installer error.
RB Twos: 15T billet compressor. Basically the normal Stage 2 setup used across the world by most vendors. In beta test with 6 sets sold since 10/2017 with a 0% failure rate to date. Recommended for 475-525whp, we are sure will make significantly more. Planned for production in the next few months if all remains 0% failure rate. Have seen go 11.0 ET thus far. Extreme budget/performance setup at a sub $2,000 price point.

TD04's-
RB Next Gens: 15T billet compressor. Most widely sold setup. About 170 setups in field with production starting 9/2015. 0 failures in 2015. 2 failures in 2016 (one badly abused, one appeared to be a non-functioning BOV). 0 failures in 2017. 0 failures thus far in 2018. Highly proven. We've seen their predecessor (RB Classics) go 10.9x ET and 131 traps. Very quick response. We recommend for 500-550whp (efficient)- they can make (and have made) much more when pushed.
RB Next Gen Plus: 17T billet compressor. These units are becoming more and more sought after. Over 40 sets in field with production starting 10/2016. 0 failures from day 1 til present so also highly proven. We've seen them go 11.0x ET and 134 traps. Quick response. We recommend for 550-600whp (efficient)- they could more.
RB Super RB Stealths: 19T billet compressor. We do not sell these much anymore. The 19T wheels with their larger sizing are fairly laggy to many (not everyone, but many). Latest versions produced for about 16 months with 0% failures with approximately 10 sets of this iteration in field. We've seen them go 10.7 ET and 133mph traps. We recommend for 575-625whp, although we believe this is getting out of range for the housings.
Super RB EVO Options: 15T/17T/19T billet compressor optioning. Basically the same as the 3 above setup but with the larger (more efficient) TD04 compressor housing, matching larger outlets, etc. More efficiency and as such better outlet temps and more power (not large amounts).

Where is this Shawn guy from DAW?
If he has sold over 500 units why not post your stats as well?

Interesting. Might just do the CHRA swap from RB when time.

the OEM rb's are priced very reasonably. I believe $999 without the upgraded wastegate. You can upgrade that for ~300 more. that's cheaper than mitsu?

RB has definitely stepped up in reliability since 2016. Damn near flawless record. I think the OE CHRAs are $450 for a pair. Only one year warranty though. Outside of FCP you will be hard pressed to find a lifetime warranty on turbos. When you are in need give him a call. They provide nice discounts for cash/check/wire payments. I have purchased two sets that way. Also FYI the RB Twos are only a couple hundred over DAW stage 2s when paying with cash/check. They have better housings, better machining, better balancing and better wastegates. Only downside is less warranty but I doubt you would have to use it.

Finally got my 2+ installed over the long weekend. Got her buttoned up, coolant bled, and oil primed with 3 10 second cranks per BMW. Fitment of the turbos was spot on, no DP install issues, no oil or coolant fitment issues. I'll tell you though, VTT aluminum outlets are a PITA.

Let the car idle for 20 minutes to burn the shipping lube off of the turbos. Haven't taken it for a ride yet because I only have MHD 2+ tune on it at the moment.

Also notice my ride height is about 1-1.5" higher after having suspension off for a bout 3 weeks. Hoping it will settle back down to normal.

But at least no more turbo howl, for now.

the silicone are even worse.

I had to drastically alter all 3 ends. Best part was that one had the fitting clamped in with a one time use clamp so had to source another good worm gear clamp.

the vrsf two piece aluminum outlets were also unreasonably difficult to install, imho. fitment of the bends in the pipe over the water pump area leading to the front turbo just didnt seem logical to me, a better fitting front pipe could definitely be made

Let it idle for a few minutes tonight after charging the battery, was drained from the coolant bleed and 3 cranking oil primes. Exhaust was smoking like crazy but didn't smell like oil. No codes, hopefully is just shipping grease and 3 weeks worth of condensation. If not I'm putting full coverage on that fucking thing and burning it to the ground. People aren't kidding when they say turbos is a job you will only do once. Finished on Monday night and I'm still sore as hell.

All up and running with a wedge base map, sounds amazing. Unfortunately it's 44 degrees and been raining all day, so I can't do anything with the car. No smoking, no rattle and the intake sound is about 3x louder than stock turbos with MMP inlets.

I am headed to Rome on Saturday for the 1 year with my wife.. doesn't seem like I will have my car back before then. Probably for the best... If I got the car back right before the trip my wife might go to Italy alone HAHA

/SHOULD/ be finished while we are there & hopefully I can go pick it up when we return.

i assume u got stage 2, i got stage 3. balancing is done by different parties on different machines so i would expect our sheets to look different.

My turbos are working great, I have stage 3 as i said. Running 17.5psi peak cuz i dont have the required fuel. Terrific spool, terrific sound, great power, these turbos push straight through my stock clutch. I can only run to like 4500rpm lol. Clutch Masters here I come. And when my clutch doesnt spin, my tires do! I have no rattles, no leaks, no smoking out exhaust. Partial throttle acceleration is wild. Other than a few fitment hassles with the td04 center section (which is to be expected) i have nothing bad to say about my daw turbos, yet. However, my car is yelling at me for more supporting mods equaling $5k+ spent. These cars aint cheap. Need twin disc clutch, BPM4 ekp upgrade, Stage 3 lpfp, and better rear tires to even be able to utilize the power the car produces on the base tune. It likely will all have to wait until next year though. The 30 degree whether here is not helping my traction issues either. My tuner David Shoup says "we are off to a good start."
He also said he has seen two of his customers' sets of stage 2+ daw turbos fail already. Dont know why. Currently my opinion is it seems to be hit or miss with these turbos. Seems i got the hit

I had totally shot stock turbos with 140k on them but FBO before upgrading. I have put about 100 miles on these daw turbos so far. Dropped car off at the dealer this morning to have some open recalls done, looking forward to picking up the car for an after work spin!

Are you just running a base map right now? I'm on a base map from Ken for the stage 2s, but don't feel any faster than FBO RFP stage 3. I imagine once i open this sucker up and send in some logs it will be great. I imagine Ken has me on a super conservative base.
