235/45/18

Has anyone fitted 235/45/18 all round? Any issues with this setup?

I have found one member here with them and they look OK. They fill the arches nicely. I do have sports suspension so will be 10mm lower.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/bpgara...=view&id=10555

I am aware of a 5% difference on radio so speedo will be out slightly.

Also will 235 be OK on a 8.5j wheel? I am looking for little as stretch as possible.

235/35/18 is super small, speedo will be off by about 8%

Do they even make tires in 235/35/18?

The correct size would be 235/40-18 for the front, or front and rear as a square fitment.

235/45-18 would be too tall, and there are implications for running tires that are drastically taller then the target height. Rolling diameter plays an important role in how your car performs, functions etc.

For reference and as a benchmark, one of the common OEM 18" configurations has heights of:

Front 225/40-18: 25.09" tall
Rear 255/35-18: 25.03" tall

235 tire options being discussed in comparison to the front OEM tire height:

235/40-18: 25.4" tall (1.24% taller - acceptable)

235/45-18: 26.33" tall (4.71% taller - unacceptable)

Thanks for the reply. I agree that preferably I would like to keep within 3% of OEM. But will an extra 1.5% be much different?

Is the main issue the speedo?

My main aim for doing this is to improve ride comfort a little. Filling the arches better is a nice bonus!

Most people would probably go 235/40/18, unless you live in a area that the roads are filled with pot holes, then it would make sense to have a little more meat, in order to help save a rim or two.

In short, yes. 4.71% taller then the OEM targeted height is no bueno. Fitment in relation to the fender liners, electronics that control the driving experience (speedo, traction/stability control etc) and performance (gearing and handling characteristics) is negatively impacted. If you are looking for a touch more height while staying within the "allowable range", go with 245/40-18.

Note the 235/40-18 is already taller than the OEM 225/40-18, so you are getting more sidewall.

If you still have wheel gap with the 235/40 or 245/40 tire, the best approach to eliminating it is to lower the car - not compromise the tires by going with a overly tall aspect ratio.

Yes we have terrible roads in the UK, so every little improvement helps.

Think your right, I will try to stay within the 3%.

So my wheels are BMW Style 193. So 18x8 and 18x8.5.

OEM tyres are;
F: 225/40
R: 255/35

So my options are;
F: 225/45
R: 245/40

Other option is 225/45 all round. But sort of thinking against it as it would look stretched on the 8.5 wheel.

I'd go:

235/40/18 - front

255/40/18 - rear

This.

You could probably even go 255/40/18, depending on the tire.

Or 255/35/18 as well...play with the numbers and see what you think will work best in your situation.

Not too sure as they seem mis-matched compared to what I have now.

There is very little difference in the front compared to OEM but yet a 4% difference in the rear.

Yes on the rear, 245/40/18 looks like a good fit. I am getting a good increase in sidewall and yet within the 3% difference. Plus it will go nicely on the 8.5 wheel.

Front's I am am still debating. 215/45 likes a good fit. I will play with the numbers and see whats best.

yes that's the same od as 235/40/18 which easily fits. it's like 1.2% larger than stock sizes.

Just thought I would add to this incase anyone is searching in the future. This is my wintet setup. I wanted more sidewall and a taller tire coming from the 225/40/18 I was running.

235/45/18 all around on the OEM Msport rims, fills up the wheel well perfectly.

Thanks, looks really good. Did the rear tyre go on the rear wheel ok, not too stretched?

2011 (LCI) e92 with sport package...

I had the style 189 staggered wheels. 18x8 front, 18x8.5 rear. Ran 255/40r18 rear and 235/40r18 fronts. (Not x-drive.)

Now, got an extra set of front rims so 18x8 all around with 245/40r18 Michelin AS 3+ No rubbing. Can run spacers in the rear if desired. I had 10mm, and could probably do 15mm.

My car is sitting a bit high in the front anyhow because of brand new upper strut mounts. I'm hoping they'll settle in soon.

Word...was hoping to see those exact tires in 245 on an 8" rim.

When I had my 335is I ran a square setup 18 x 8.5 et35 BBS CH with a 15 mm H&R spacer in the back w/ 235/40/18 all around.

The car's handling was incredibly neutral on turn-in and you could still do a little work with the throttle on corner exit ... Fun!
