Yes, a Z06 is beatable... point being; an N54 no matter how heavily modified (even with over 500 WHP) has not been able to beat one single 100% stock Z06 yet... Enrita couldn't even do that and that's after spending 15-20K on modifying his car... There is a logic point that one has to get too where the benefits do not outweigh the costs. Yes, not everyone races from a traction limited dig... at the same time a car that is only good at racing above 50 MPH is next to useless as a DD which is the whole idea here. Then factor in potential reliability and it's no longer such a great proposition... I just like to keep things real here; if you didn't notice that GTR which has a 700 pounds disadvantage has only a 2 MPH trap speed disadvantage in the 1/4 over the 458. That alone should say something about the engineering of that car and that there are other factors at play here which cannot be replicated by simply adding tons of power to an engine.

We are still only talking about a drag race here and not factoring in anything else.

Trap speeds arent an exact science when their are external factors. Living in the clouds would be assuming a realistic match up between a 500WHP N54 and a GTR can happen readily at any given day of the week. I see about 1 GTR every 3 months and never at a red light. It's usually parked. As for the 500WHP N54's..... crickets. Lets not get ahead of ourselves indeed. |

z06 shmee-oh-six. i'd take a GTR over most cars including a z06. don't care if a modded z06 is very tough to beat, i'd still much rather be driving a modded GTR

exactly Jeff... it would be like assuming a perfect situation would happen when it never does.
And yes JP, I would also prefer to be driving a modded GTR.

I'd take a modded z06 over a GTR for daily driving or on the track...if you're on a budget, the new 5.0 is one of the best new platforms to build. Easily a low 10 sec. car and with a grand in suspension mods can run right with a M3 on the track. My .02. GTR's have great engineering from the a mechanical standpoint, but have you seen the interior...built similar to my wifes 2001 eclipse ...I do agree that corvettes lack there too. Just garage talk.

Robert@vishnu's daily driver is a 600whp Z06 (full bolt-ons plus tune). It's ridiculously fast (and loud) on the road. A high 10s car for sure. But on the street, it feels wide and a bit ungainly. Definitely a better track car than a street car. Still wouldn't mind having one though

Exactly why I would like to have a GTR... traction and a DCT are a tough combo to beat for most situations. Not exactly... yes; there have been massive improvements but for someone who is used to driving foreign sports cars; it's far from being there quite yet. American cars still don't have the fit and finish or interior quality that many require nor do they inspire the confidence in a driver that is pushing the vehicles limits. Having driven a Z06, Camaro and a 5.0... they all felt very twitchy on their feet with the 5.0 being the worst in the body roll and disconnected steering sense. In other words; there is a long way to go before M3 drivers start switching to new Mustangs.

How disheartening... It's been a week since I've visited this thread, and skipping to the last page for a quick assessment on whether the pages and pages I missed before it are worth reading... I'm going with no lol. But at least I'm caught up on Z06s and GTRs and everyone's opinions on them... Must be a lot going on with this...

My hope for the two N54 projects are high. And let's hope someone fully cracks this Direct Injection system. e85 with a twin-scroll GTX3582 or EFR7670 would be AWESOME! |

While it'd be nice to try beating a stock ZO6 or whatnot, we've got to put things in perspective here. We're still driving luxury coupes and sedans that are quite quiet and civilized under normal driving. The ZO6 is in a different league. It'd be cool to at least scare a ZO6 owner by not *completely* disappearing in the mirror, but maybe being a few car lengths behind, especially given the rather unassuming looks.
I'm mainly curious to see if it's even remotely possible to do an HPF turbo kit for an AWD drivetrain. |

My buddy had a 135i fully bolted with meth n he was side by side with a z06 so I'm not sure why people are saying there is no chance. Imagine. 135 with the single setup from a roll. It's weight to power ratio would be very favorable no?
