Will 80w halogen bulbs be ok?
For strictly off road use of course (in the uk).
Is there any reason why 80w shouldn't be used? I have fitted some osram silverstars to the main beam but want to upgrade the headlights next.

The question is would the wiring be able to handle 80W without getting too hot, and will hte headlight be able to handle its heat without damage.
Im a bit confused with your last sentince Do you only have Silverstars in one set of beas ( say diped beams) and now want to upgrade the other 2 bulbs ( say full beam) ? Why not use Silverstars in them both ?

Sorry - should have explained a little clearer. You got the gist though. I now have silverstars in my "dipped" - I just thought that the 80w would be better suited to the "full beam"

I think 80W would fry the wiring
Try some silverstars in there they work great in the full beams on a E46, so should too in the E90

Your advice is good enough for me mate - wil get some. I've just been out (in the dark) for the first time and its the best £12 I've ever spent on a car. Makes a big difference.

If so, just wait and see, they take a few days to "burn in", and then light up even better.

Yes - the silverstars - amazes me that BMW don't fit them as standard to the halogen equipped cars. Great - even more light! Cheers.

I am not sure if it will fry the harness. 100watts maybe. The stock bulbs are 55watts. Anybody running 80watt bulbs?

Would like to think that going from 4.6 Amps to 6.6 Amps would not fry any wiring, wheras 8.3 Amps is a much bigger step-up.
