How to get Max Speed out of AT 335's?

Hey all. When driving my 335i, sometimes I notice I feel a bit slower flooring (not using kickback) the car rather than just maybe only pushing 3/4'ths of the pedal. I notice some people have said the same thing and just wanted to get some final clarification if this is anything or I'm just insane. Oddly enough, in general, sometimes my car feels slower than other times too which is also kind of weird.

Yes this is very real and true. You should be glad this happens. The knock sensor is protecting the engine. The car will feel more sluggish at some throttle/load/gear conditions when the DME decided to pull ignition timing. To avoid this you should put best octane possible.

This is assuming you are not heavily modded with some stage 2 tune map... Which case things get more complicated.

I see, hmm, well I put in 91 everytime from Shell so not like I'm exactly putting weak gas in the car. And i'm currently stock, I guess I'll appreciate the system but it makes me wonder when I'm hitting the cars full potential.

could be just how the car responds going from hot weather 90-80s now to cooler weather 60-70s.

could also be your throttle adaption settings, you can try resetting it see if it makes a difference.

also if your on mhd, you can change it to a linear throttle map.

Its California 91.. only a Canadian like me knows what your talking about. We have very bad gas.. 91 is ACN, its SHIT

Hot weather will make things worse. I notice that when its cold in Canada my car runs sooo much better. Alot more torque. Cold air is the best for engines.

California sucks for high octane. There is one gas station near me and they have 93 and 100 but for astronomical prices since it's in the nicest neighborhood in the county. Talking $7/$10 per gallon. :O

On second thought, considering 91 is now floating around $4.00/$4.20 per gallon, it's not that crazy. I miss $3 for a gallon of 91...

Same with us. We have 94 Octane but its very very expensive. Similar prices to what you describe.

The best would be E30. Would love to have that option.

A real option for us is Water Injection. Esp for California. No winter and you can only use water and drop the temp to the point where you wont see knock even at 15 + PSI never mind stock level.

What mode are you driving in? Drive/Sport/Manual??

Try driving manual and completely turn off DTC

Well when I'm having fun I'm usually using DS mode with DTC off. To be honest I haven't felt what I described in the post for a while now actually for some reason. Seems to have same power all around now. But despite what you're recommending me to do, my main question still is whether or not flooring it (no kickdown) is better than pressing it maybe 3/4th's of the way or not. I've seen some people say that and I was pretty confused LOL

Have to admit though that your thread title is very misleading. Sounds like you are asking about the car's top speed..

If you are in a higher gear(4/5/6) and are at a lower RPM(lugging/cruising) then no you shouldn't floor it, as it'll actually put more stress on the engine. Either downshift(which if you stomp the pedal to the floor it will automatically downshift because of the kickdown switch on the throttle pedal) or gradually press the throttle.

How do I know what gear I'm in while in dsmode tho? I should know depending on the speed? I assume just use kickdown on freeway but full throttle when not cruising on a freeway . When launching should I use kickdown?
Sorry for so many questions, only got into cars recently LMAO

Wow that's crazy! $7/gallon for 93 octane? I fill up at BP near my house. $3.39 for 93 octane. 93 octane is plentiful around NYC, not sure why it's rare in Cali.

Can't get 93 octane in Iowa anymore. 91 is the top.
