Road Trip to Galena

My wife and I are planning to take a Sunday Drive out to Galena to enjoy the Fall colors. Does anyone have any recommendations for the drive from Chicago or once we are there.

i go snowboarding at chestnut mt. resort there every winter. its pretty nice. roads in the winter there suck though (tons of black ice). it might be nice this time of the year -- narrow windy but visible roads -- something you might like. you could see the mississippi river pretty clearly too. and if you have time, hit up iowa.
