Does Bluetooth need BMW Assist to work?

My BMW sales agent told me today that for Bluetooth to work, I need to have the BMW concierge service. She said that for the first year it is free but for the subsequent years I will need to renew my subscription with a credit card. Is that true?
Is that what BMW Assist is? Kind of like Tele Aid from MB. I had that before and I cancelled it after 1 year since I used it a total of 0 minutes and they wanted $300 to continue the service!
I thought bluetooth is simply a wireless connection to my cell phone which is unrelated to any BMW services.

bluetooth is only available as part of the assist package

if you don't order assist your car won't have bluetooth,
I don't think you'll have to continue to pay for assist thru the years to make bluetooth work though

You are correct. You will not need the BMW Assist subscription for Bluetooth capability. You will need to get the BMW Assist option (which is also included in the Premium Package) to get the Bluetooth car though.

Another case of you are right, sales agent not so much.

Thanks for your responses everyone. Do any of you know if Bluetooth can be added on to the car if Premium pkg wasn't ordered?
I have the premium pkg but I am just curious.
I seem to remember you can do so on the E46.

Ive seen bluetooth kits for E60 and E46 . With BMWCCA discount they were about $300-400 i think ? I don't see why it will not be available for the E90.
