What does a N51 max out at vs N52?

I was wondering if a N51 can make as much power as a N52 despite the lower compression ratio of 10.0 vs 10.7? I know the N51 has some design difference and was curious if that limited the maximum performance compared to the N52?

I have a N51 and am deciding if any more mods besides the AA Stage 2 tune is worthwhile, while still be able to pass California emissions...

Depends. You might never reach n52 numbers. However, how much are willing to spend chasing maximum gains?

Your options that shouldn’t affect the emissions are:
Tune, air box mod (Euro airbox with dinan mod), silencer delete (rev motoring hose), milvs. If you decide to do milvs, you need to get stage fp tune. Otherwise AA is perfectly adequate and comparable. That should yeild up to 20whp increase (if not more). You could also replace your muffler. That should free up some hp as well.

Awesome, thanks for your your feedback. I'm not sure if I want to really spend much more money to get that last bit of gain.

I think I'll keep what I have in the meantime as I'm plenty happy with the power that I have (I came from a 1997 Toyota Corolla).

In that case do airbox mod, and get a tune from AA.

I got the AA tune already and did the charcoal filter delete. Definitely noticed the hesitation that I use to get when I stepped on the gas is gone and has a bit more pull after 5k rpm.

The fact that you can put a 3SI on an N52 and pick up 30-40hp with a free OEM tune will always make the N52 superior to the N51.

There's a 2006 330i 6MT with only 43k miles that's being sold for $10k near me, now I'm a bit tempted to see if it's worth checking out?

Ahh OK. In that case, get euro airbus for about $100
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1460099
Here is one for about $100 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-2...kAAOSw3rpakgIF
or this one in germany for $35 https://www.ebay.de/itm/BMW-E91-E90-...YAAOSwWChfBX11

Do this mod:

Btw. You don't need euro box to do the mod, but it makes it so much easier.

Get this: https://www.amazon.com/Custom-Silico.../dp/B06Y1TTW4Y or the one from eBay for $30.

You will feel the difference.

I check out the links but looks like they don't ship to the US. I'll look into the eurobox and intake upgrade!
